Position Title: Business Planning, Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate: $19.00 (Undergraduate), $21.00 (Graduate)
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
The Business Planning Intern will serve as a key support resource within the MTA Procurement Business Planning team. This team partners closely with MTA People (Human Resources) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to ensure effective workforce planning and financial oversight. The intern will contribute to HR processing activities, recruitment workflows, and the development of monthly budget reports that detail salary, wages, and Other Than Personnel Services (OTPS) variances for Procurement leadership and OMB.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with collecting and organizing monthly expense data.
  • Complete budget analysis and flag discrepancies for review.
  • Update tracking sheets, internal logs related to budget status.
  • Monitor ePerformance completion and follow up with staff as needed.
  • Draft internal reminders or communications to support deadlines and compliance.
  • Review organization charts for accuracy and update titles or reporting lines as changes occur.
  • Prepare simple summaries or reports to support leadership review.
  • Complete adhoc requests as needed.

PROJECTS:
The Business Planning Intern will work under the guidance of the Manager, Business Planning, and will support core operational and analytical functions, including:
  • Liaising with MTA People (Human Resources) on recruitment and personnel actions.
  • Coordinating with the Office of Management and Budget on staffing and budget-related matters.
  • Processing HR action forms, onboarding documentation, and recruitment updates.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly budget reports that summarize and explain variances in salary, wage, and non-labor accounts.
  • Supporting data analysis, report creation, and continuous process improvement efforts within Procurement Business Planning.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA AND/OR matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA
  • Major(s) Preferred: Accounting/Finance/Human Resources, or related field.
