Description
Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Project Manager - Transportation to join our team in either Huntsville or Birmingham, AL. This role supports our continued growth and offers the opportunity to work on (or support) meaningful projects alongside a collaborative, experienced team. You'll have the chance to build your career while contributing to impactful solutions across the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation projects, with a primary focus on roadway design, while assisting with projects involving traffic engineering, multimodal planning, and related services.
  • Assist with project management activities, including scope, schedule, and budget tracking, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by supporting proposal preparation, identifying potential opportunities, and assisting in maintaining client relationships with municipalities, counties, and state agencies.
  • Apply engineering principles to develop technical designs and analyses, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in QA/QC processes to help ensure the delivery of high-quality, accurate, and technically sound work products.
  • Coordinate with internal teams-including Planning, Survey, Environmental, H&H, Structural, and Construction-to support integrated project delivery.
  • Provide technical support during project development and, as needed, assist with construction-phase services and field coordination.
  • Collaborate with senior staff and leadership to implement project strategies and contribute to continuous improvement of processes and deliverables.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, designers, and technicians, supporting team development and knowledge sharing.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant experience.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Ability to obtain PE within six months of hiring, required.
  • Ability to obtain licensure in additional states where Waggoner practices, as needed.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PTOE, PMP, DBIA) are a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local engineering regulations and design standards for transportation projects.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of construction processes and practices to support constructability and field coordination.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
