Description

Job Summary:


The Logistics Specialist will be accountable for managing Omaha Steaks inbound/outbound freight shipments supporting the Omaha Steaks logistics and supply chain teams. The individual will be responsible for effective communication with 3rd-party suppliers, coordinating freight to and from various Customers/Vendors/ & Omaha Steaks locations. They will serve as a liaison between the procurement, production, inventory, distribution, sales, and logistics team, providing timely resolution to any transportation issues and concerns.


Essential job duties include but are not limited to:



  • Coordinates with various internal business groups such as procurement, supply chain, and the fulfillment teams to efficiently ship freight to/from Omaha Steaks locations and 3PL vendors.

  • Sources, evaluates, onboards, and dispatches third-party carriers to effectively transport dry truckload (TL) and temperature-controlled freight to and from Omaha Steaks locations.

  • Vets 3rd party carrier freight rates and determines the most cost-effective carrier for each shipment, exercising independent judgment in carrier selection and the allocation of transportation spend while balancing cost, service, capacity, and delivery requirements.

  • Operates TMS software programs (McLeod) to dispatch carriers to fulfill inbound and outbound shipments for the procurement, supply chain, and Logistics teams.

  • Manages the coordination of transportation agreements with carriers and 3PL brokers, working closely with Risk and Legal to ensure agreements align with company requirements, insurance standards, and compliance expectations. Obtains bids, tenders loads, and monitors shipments with approved transportation partners.

  • Directly supervises the Logistics Coordinator, providing direction, assigning work, supporting development, and ensuring day-to-day transportation activities are completed effectively.

  • Reviews, accounts for, and codes transportation invoices; maintains KPI reporting, budget tracking, and other reports that support Logistics operations and transportation spend management.

  • Supports the OTR private fleet backhaul program and assists with logistics projects as assigned by the Senior Logistics Manager.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • 4- year college degree or equivalent

  • Two years' experience in logistics coordination with a transportation background.

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Applications

  • Self- started with strong customer service, communication, detail-oriented, and critical-thinking skills.

  • Flexible, problem-solver with the ability to work in a fast-paced professional environment

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Applications

  • Possess strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail

  • Excellent planning and effective communication skills

  • Time management skills – willingness to adapt and be flexible when issues arise
