Job description

Position: Intermodal Dispatcher

Job Description:

The Intermodal Dispatcher is responsible for the planning, scheduling, and dispatching of our customer's freight. The role owns the relationship with our valued Independent Contractors and is instrumental in the successful coordination of the accurate delivery of goods in a timely fashion. The key responsibilities of this function are to provide exceptional support to our drivers, be quick to respond to questions and troubleshooting concerns and to pro-actively monitor the movement of freight to ensure customer satisfaction. 

Core Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize situations in a fast-paced environment (load-planning/dispatching)
  • Communicate with drivers to prioritize loads, define routes, and set schedules
  • Monitor containers to prevent demurrage and storage fees
  • Providing detailed instruction to various personnel via email and phone
  • Accepting & scheduling loads and providing excellent customer service
  • Make routing decisions that satisfy customer expectations and company financial decisions
  • Ensure that shipping data is entered into the system timely and accurately
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Intermodal transportation experience strongly preferred
  • Self-motivated problem-solver with fervent desire to meet customer needs 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Desire for a long-term career with an industry leading company 
  • Ability to present and maintain a positive corporate image in a fast-paced environment 
  • Proactively establish and maintain effective working team relationships with all support departments
