Job description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead and strengthen the accounting function for a rapidly expanding transportation business in Tacoma, Washington. This position is ideal for a hands-on finance leader who can bring structure to a fast-moving environment, improve financial visibility, and support continued growth. The role offers the opportunity to shape core processes, partner closely with leadership, and build a scalable foundation for the company’s next stage.

Responsibilities:

• Direct daily accounting operations across areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

• Lead the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of complete financial statements.

• Design and implement practical accounting procedures, internal controls, and reporting workflows that support a growing transportation organization.

• Develop financial analysis, budgets, forecasts, and performance reporting to help leadership make informed business decisions.

• Improve the use of existing tools, including QuickBooks and Excel, while identifying opportunities to reduce manual and paper-based processes.

• Partner with administrative and operational teams to clarify responsibilities, strengthen accountability, and increase efficiency across finance-related activities.

• Prepare consolidated financial information and present clear insights on revenue trends, costs, and overall business performance.

• Support the evaluation and rollout of improved financial systems and standardized processes as the company continues to scale.

• Contribute as a strategic finance leader while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting execution and problem solving.

The salary range for this position is $125k to $175k. Benefits available with this position include medical, dental and vision; life and disability insurances; participation in the company’s 401(k) plan with a match and 15 days of paid vacation, 5days of paid sick leave and 9 paid holidays per calendar year.

• Proven experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting leadership role within a growing organization.
• Strong background in general accounting, financial statement preparation, and oversight of month-end close activities.
• Ability to perform detailed financial analysis and translate findings into actionable recommendations for leadership.
• Experience creating or formalizing accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiencies.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills in an accounting environment.
• Knowledge of transportation, logistics, or a related operational industry is strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on setting where systems and processes are still being built or refined.
