Job description

Job Title: Scientist I, Translational Medicine 

Job Summary:  

AbelZeta is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel immunotherapy products. We are on a rapid growth trajectory and have a highly energized and accomplished team driving to new frontiers of care for cancer and autoimmune disease patients.  

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Scientist I to join our Translational Medicine team in Rockville, MD. Translational Medicine team focuses on the analysis of clinical samples to characterize the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) and biomarker profiles of AbelZeta’s innovative cell therapy products and to better understand the mechanisms associated with treatment response and resistance. 

As a member of our team, you will contribute to the development, execution, and analysis of translational and clinical bioanalytical assays supporting AbelZeta’s clinical development programs in hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, and autoimmune diseases.  You will play an important role in generating high-quality biomarker data and will work closely with internal scientists, cross-functional teams, and external laboratories or partners.

The position is primarily laboratory-based and requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.  

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Processclinicalspecimens, including but not limited to PBMC isolations, cellpreparation andlabeling, and DNA/RNA extraction.  
  • Develop,optimize,and performimmunologic, characteristic, and quantitativebioanalyticalassays such as qPCR, ELISA,andFlow cytometry.  
  • Support the development and execution of translationalbiomarkers, PK/PD, and other clinical bioanalytical assays.
  • Contributeto the planning, design,execution, and troubleshootingof high-quality experimental work.  
  • Documentexperimental procedures,observations, deviations, and results accurately andin accordance withapplicable SOPsand laboratory practices.
  • Interpret,summarize,and communicateresults to senior scientists and/orappropriate stakeholders.  
  • Follow established SOPs, assay procedures, and laboratory quality requirements and contribute to the development or revision of procedures asappropriate.  
  • Maintain complete and well-organized laboratory records and contribute to the preparation of technical reports, study summaries, presentations, and other scientific documentation.  
  • Support the preparation and review of bioanalytical and translational medicine content for IND applications, regulatory submissions, and other regulatory documents, asappropriate.  
  • Collaborate with external laboratories, CROs, and other partners to support clinical sample testing and data delivery, as needed.
  • Performroutine instrument maintenance, laboratoryorganization,reagent,andsupplyinventory management.
  • Performother duties as assigned.  

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • BSor MS degreeinimmunology, biology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, biotechnology, orarelated scientificdiscipline (MS preferred).
  • Relevant laboratory experience in biotechnology, biopharmaceutical research, translational medicine, ora relatedfield.  
  •  Requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. 
  • Hands-on experienceswithcell culture,qPCR,andFACSarestrongly preferred.  Experience with ELISA or other ligand-binding assaysis desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability tomaintainaccurateand complete experimental documentation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, able to document work clearly, concisely, and understand and describe its importance to others  
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple activities while meeting established timelines and quality expectations.  
  • Good interpersonal skills – able to work effectively with colleagues/collaborators from diverse backgrounds, levels of seniority, and territories. 
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learnnew technologies, assays, and scientific concepts.  
  • Experience in Immunology and cell therapy is desired.Experienceworking with and managing relationships with CRAs in clinical sites is a plus.
