Job Summary
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent Educational Services (or designee), provides a communication link between community and the school; interprets district policy, regulations, and program goals and objects to limited or non-English speaking individuals; performs interpreting of a specified non-English languages and translating of documents from one language to another; performs routine clerical duties; and maintains records and files.
Job Description / Essential Elements:
TITLE OF POSITION: BILINGUAL LIAISON CLERK
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under general supervision - provides a communication link between community and the school; interprets District policy, regulations, and program goals and objects; performs interpreting of languages and translating of documents from one language to another; performs routine clerical duties; maintains records and files; and other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs translation and interpretative services pertaining to both oral and written communication.
  • Performs a variety of services as a communication link between the school and members of the educational community.
  • Assists parents and community members in understanding program goals and objectives, and enlists their support and involvement in the educational process.
  • Performs a variety of routine clerical duties such as answering the phone, typing, filing, records maintenance, and preparing schedules, arranging meetings and drafting and translating meeting minutes.
  • Assists with records management and prepares reports on EL students.
  • Schedules and attends meetings related to EL services.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs follow-up functions and activities including school visitations and home visits with another staff member, when directed by supervisor that may involve student attendance, welfare, and other student-related problems, and provide any and all related documentation per district procedures.
  • Arranges EL recognition activities.
  • Provides assistance with CELDT testing.
  • Provides assistance with parental notifications regarding test scores.
  • If the position is at the district level, provides direct and indirect services to homeless students, and delinquent/neglected students in local institutions and community day school.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education Required: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Experience Required: Two years of general office experience, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Ability to accurately read, write, communicate and translate a specified language other than English; communicate with parents and encourage participation in school activities; understand and follow oral and written directions; appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling and grammar; perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office-related machines and equipment, operate a computer and type at a speed of 40 words per minute; and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability, TB test clearance, Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance, and pre-employment physical and drug testing.
