Posting Summary
Dr. Tutwiler's lab is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team studying the biomechanics of blood clots in health and disease. The research will focus on understanding the mechanical properties of blood clots, including clot contraction, rupture resistance, and embolization potential, with relevance to thrombotic disorders such as venous thromboembolism (VTE) and pulmonary embolism (PE) and bleeding such as in gum disease.
This project combines elements of hematology, biomechanics, and translational medicine, and aims to improve the understanding of how clot structure and function contribute to embolic risk - ultimately informing diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
• PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Hematology, Biophysics, or a related field.
• Prior experience in blood biomechanics, thrombosis, or coagulation research is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in imaging, clot assays, and quantitative analysis is a strong plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A collaborative mindset and a drive to pursue impactful, translational research.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• 1-2 years working in electron microscopy or x-ray crystallography, and data processing (particularly related to protein structural analysis/modeling)
• Expertise in Hemostasis and Thrombosis
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team, self-motivated, adaptable, works with a positive attitude
• Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and efficiently, learn new techniques, keep accurate records, follow instructions, comply with institutional policies
