Job description

Project Manager - Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Transition

Independent Contractor (1099) | Remote | Eastern or Central Time Zone

About the Company

Our client supplies retailers throughout the United States with a wide range of premium-quality dog products and accessories. The company's vision is to be the most respected and well-run pet supply company in the United States.

About the Project

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the operational execution of a distribution and logistics initiative. This project involves transitioning the company's Northeast distribution center operations to a third-party logistics provider (3PL) located in the Southeastern United States.

Working closely with the Operations team and reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Project Manager will serve as the primary point of coordination among internal teams, external partners, and executive stakeholders. The successful contractor will develop and manage the project plan, identify and mitigate risks, and help ensure the transition is completed on schedule and without disruption to customers.

This is a remote, project-based 1099 independent contractor engagement. The contractor must be located in the Eastern or Central time zone. Occasional travel may be required.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the end-to-end operational execution of the 3PL transition project.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive project plan, including schedules, milestones, critical paths, dependencies, deliverables, and assigned responsibilities.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders across supply chain, warehouse operations, logistics, inventory, fulfillment, technology, and related functions.
  • Ensure warehouse, logistics, and fulfillment processes are prepared to support anticipated volumes, service expectations, and transition timelines.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify potential delays, resource constraints, operational risks, and bottlenecks.
  • Develop and facilitate timely mitigation and contingency plans to keep the project on schedule and minimize business disruption.
  • Establish clear communication and accountability across project participants.
  • Provide executive leadership and key stakeholders with regular status updates, risk assessments, milestone reporting, and project evaluations.
  • Support a smooth operational handoff and help ensure continuity of service throughout the transition.

Qualifications

  • Seven to ten years of project management experience, including significant responsibility for supply chain, distribution, logistics, or warehouse-related projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully executing complex supply chain or operational transformation projects.
  • Deep understanding of warehouse distribution operations, logistics, inventory movement, and fulfillment processes.
  • Experience managing projects involving third-party logistics providers strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with project management platforms such as Asana, Monday.com, Smartsheet, or Jira, as well as Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, conflict-resolution, and matrix-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify risks, resolve problems, and maintain progress across multiple workstreams.
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with both executive leadership and operational teams.

Education and Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, operations, or a related field.
  • PMP or Scrum Master certification is a strong plus.

Engagement Details

  • 1099 independent contractor engagement; this is not an employee position.
  • Remote, with the contractor located in the Eastern or Central time zone.
  • Occasional project-related travel may be required.
  • Compensation and anticipated project duration will be discussed during the selection process.
