Position SummaryThe CDL Transportation Driver transports participants in Pathway’s Micro Transit System safely to and from designated stops while coordinating assigned routes and ensuring timely service. This position is responsible for effectively communicating any delays, route changes, or operational issues with passengers and the Micro Transit Manager.
The driver must operate a commercial vehicle in full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining a high standard of professionalism, safety, and customer service. This role requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement with a minimum of 2 years’ experience and a strong commitment to punctuality, defensive driving, and participant care.
All newly hired drivers will complete a two-week training program, which includes certification through TAPTCO to ensure compliance, safety standards, and professional transportation practices.
This is a full-time position with a consistent weekday schedule.
Reports To: Micro Transit Manager
Key Responsibilities- Safely operate a commercial transit vehicle in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
- Follow assigned routes and schedules in a timely and professional manner
- Safely pick up and drop off passengers at designated stops
- Utilize defensive driving techniques at all times
- Communicate delays, route concerns, or operational issues with dispatch and passengers
- Maintain a professional, service-oriented demeanor while representing Pathway
- Assist passengers with mobility challenges, including operating wheelchair lifts and properly securing riders
- Enforce safety and behavioral expectations onboard
- Conduct and document required vehicle inspections as assigned
- Maintain daily cleanliness of the vehicle and complete scheduled deep cleanings
- Report maintenance needs, incidents, accidents, or safety concerns immediately

Required Qualifications- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience
- At least six (6) months of experience transporting passengers in a commercial vehicle
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to pass Criminal Background Check
- Must pass DOT Physical and Drug Screening
- Reliable personal transportation with current insurance
- Knowledge of Indianapolis and Far Eastside area preferred
- Willingness to successfully complete two-week onboarding training and obtain TAPTCO certification
Physical Requirements- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle
- Frequent entering and exiting of the vehicle
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Operate wheelchair lifts and secure mobility devices
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and standing
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Maintain alertness and quick response time during extended driving periods
- Meet DOT medical standards for commercial driving
