JOB TITLE: Transit System Driver

DEPARTMENT: Transportation

SUPERVISORโ€™S TITLE: Transportation Manager

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

JOB STATUS: Full Time, Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Mondayโ€“Friday, day shift


Summary:

Provide safe, reliable, and timely transportation services for individuals within the community, including persons with disabilities and medical transportation needs. This safety-sensitive position involves operating agency vehicles in compliance with all DOT, federal, state, and local regulations while ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of all passengers. Route will be in Scott County, IN. Southern Indiana Transit System is headquartered in Corydon, IN.


Key Responsibilities:

ยท Operate agency vehicles to provide public transit services in a safe and timely manner

ยท Transport passengers to and from homes, medical appointments, and designated pick-up/drop-off locations

ยท Ensure all passengers are accounted for before and after transport

ยท Provide door-to-door assistance, including support for boarding and exiting vehicles as needed

ยท Safely secure passengers using wheelchairs, mobility devices, and safety equipment

ยท Follow all transportation schedules and assignments provided by dispatch or supervision

ยท Maintain professional and respectful interactions with all passengers

ยท Perform daily vehicle inspections, including pre-trip and post-trip checks

ยท Clean and sanitize vehicle interiors, including disinfecting high-touch surfaces and managing spills or biohazards as needed

ยท Fuel vehicles and ensure proper vehicle maintenance readiness

ยท Maintain and inventory vehicle supplies, including first aid kits and safety equipment

ยท Report maintenance issues and vehicle concerns to supervision promptly

ยท Complete required documentation and daily logs accurately

ยท Enforce passenger safety rules, including no eating, drinking, or smoking on vehicles

ยท Assist passengers as needed while maintaining safety and dignity

Physical & Work Requirements:

ยท Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, twist, push, and pull

ยท Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and assist passengers frequently

ยท Ability to operate vehicles in varied weather and traffic conditions

ยท Ability to assist passengers with mobility devices and boarding equipment

ยท Must meet FMCSA physical qualification standards

ยท Valid Class B or C CDL with passenger endorsement OR Operatorโ€™s License with โ€œFor Hireโ€ endorsement

ยท Driver Road Evaluation Test (in-house)

ยท DOT-required drug testing and background screening


Certifications & Training Requirements:

ยท CPR and First Aid certification

ยท Preventing Disease Transmission (Bloodborne Pathogens) certification

ยท CRT (Certified Restraint Training) certification

ยท Completion of Child Transportation Procedures for SITS
