Description This classification transports passengers of City Transit in a safe, courteous manner over established routes according to a time schedule. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Transit Shift Supervisor or Assistant Transit Manager.

Examples of Duties Operates a 35,000-pound vehicle on an established route according to a time schedule and picks up and discharges passengers; performs pre-trip inspections. Drives safely, maintains control of the vehicle, and obeys traffic regulations. Assists passengers through verbal guidance and operation of accessibility equipment; may be required to secure bicycles, wheelchairs, strollers, and other items using installed securement systems Collects fares from and interacts with passengers with a variety of personalities, health issues, abilities, and disabilities.

Reports delays, mechanical problems, and accidents; responds to emergency situations. Completes daily records and logs and receives safety information. May operate an ADA accessible van.

Transports passengers of City Transit in a safe, courteous manner over established routes according to the time schedule. Complies with laws, ordinances, and regulations regarding operating transit vehicles. Recognizes traffic hazards and uses safety precautions to avoid or decrease accidents, and has knowledge of City geography and street locations.

Typical Qualifications High school diploma or GED; previous experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles, transit operations, and/or transportation is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Must possess and maintain a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class B commercial driver's license at the time of appointment. Must obtain the required passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement within 60 days of hire and maintain throughout employment

Supplemental Information Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. Examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants.
