Salary:

The annual salary for this position ranges from $75,000 - $115,000 and varies based on specific responsibilities and geographic location. Starting annual salary within this range will be determined based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and/or skillset. 

Summary:

Signode, a leader in packaging and automation equipment, is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer for our Application Engineering Department. The role involves designing, planning, integrating, and commissioning end-of-line packaging equipment. The incumbent will support the electrical and electronic controls, as well as instrumentation, for both new and existing machinery and support equipment used in the manufacturing process. This includes equipment that is either purchased or fabricated in-house. Strong technical skills in control engineering and familiarity with automation systems are essential for this role.


Essential Functions:

  • Develop PLC based control systems, with PLC ladder logic, including structured text or function block, using various computer programs including Rockwell and Siemens based software.
  • Design and develop HMI screens to interface with the main/remote control system.
  • Design, plan, and implement electrical/controls for new and existing equipment for improved performance.
  • Deploy industrial robots for palletizing, packaging, and related applications.
  • Integrate automation systems, including troubleshooting programs at customer sites.
  • Participate in technical design reviews to ensure electrical design integrity is achieved.
  • Submit engineering change orders and assist with technical documentation.
  • Build and test prototypes.
  • Select electrical, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical components.
  • Evaluate new technologies in the electrical and electronic field for the purpose of incorporating these technologies in these manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize these technologies to improve production processes, part quality, and safety.
  • Collaborate with product managers and customers to understand market requirements and document product requirements.
  • Communicate with suppliers, assemblers, service personnel, management, and other engineers to help transition new products from prototype into full production.
  • Develop test plans.
  • Contribute to the development of standard work processes.
  • Conceptualize and pursue intellectual property related to new products.
  • Coordinates small development projects.
  • Create and review electrical schematics in AutoCAD.
  • 10 - 20% travel annually.
  • Ability to interface with vendors and customers.
  • Occasional travel outside of normal business hours in urgent situations.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or related field.

Experience:

  • 2-5 years of experience programming automation or packaging equipment.
  • Familiarity and aptitude for troubleshooting electromechanical and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with PDM and ERP systems preferred.
  • Rockwell and / or Siemens PLC programming.
  • Industrial PLC and Robot control experience is a plus.
  • Experience using CAD systems, AutoCAD electrical experience preferred.
  • EPLAN experience a plus.
