Join Axia Electric, a Shimmick subsidiary, as an Electrical Field Engineer and play a key role in delivering complex electrical and process control systems for some of Northern California's most critical infrastructure projects.

Electrical Division

Since the early 1990s, Shimmick has been self-performing electrical scopes for infrastructure projects. In 2025, the Electrical Division rebranded to Axia Electric, a subsidiary to Shimmick Construction. Axia offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our ability to self-perform this specialty offers additional value and enables us to better control cost and schedule for projects with major electrical and process mechanical scopes. Our clients include municipalities, water districts, sanitation districts, transit agencies, private developers, DOTs, and USACE.

Axia Electric, headquartered in Riverside, California, focuses on large public owners in several states, across water resources, water treatment, transportation and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $350 millionNorth City Pure Water Facilityin San Diego and the $235 millionEVMWD Regional Water Reclamation Facility Expansion Project in Lake Elsinore, CA.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing assignments that require the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria’s to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Exercising judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Preparing engineering related calculations and developing drawings and visual aids.
  • Assisting with field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials used.
  • Assisting with construction administration and documentation of deficiencies and deviations from plans.
  • Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Researching and compiling project information for reporting, marketing, and funding requests.
  • Creating and maintaining centralized files for project records (including digital).
  • Coordinating logistics and meetings for project managers.
  • Helping in the preparation of reports, including monthly development reports.
  • Assisting with community outreach duties as needed.
  • Attending neighborhood, community, and project meetings.
  • Undertaking tasks as may be assigned by project managers.
  • Having a clear understanding of the budget and assist in the creation of and adherence to project and development budgets.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Prior internships involving Rail, Transit, and/or Water/Wastewater construction projects.
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders.
  • Work independently and effectively to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

The salary range for this position is between $75,000 - $95,000per year depending on experience and/or education.
