Bus Driver


Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma
  2. CDL and school bus endorsement
  3. DOT physical
  4. S.T.O.P. class completed within 1st year of employment and each year after
  5. Safe driving record

Performance Duties:

  1. Inspect bus daily according to list provided.
  2. Keep inside and outside of bus clean and dusted and windows clean.
  3. Keep turn signals, blinker lights, stop light and windshield clean at all times.
  4. Keep students in their seats on the bus when it is in motion. They will also stay seated until the bus comes to a complete stop for unloading.
  5. Be alert and cautious. Be professional in your action, speech and appearance. Refrain from personal use of tobacco, stimulants, sedatives, alcoholic beverages, and profane or indecent language while engaged in your duties or while in the presence of students. Pupils on the bus will likewise be expected to refrain from use of any of the above.
  6. Follow scheduled route time. It is not necessary to wait for anyone except for a special reason.
  7. Report any problem you have to the Transportation Supervisor.
  8. Report any families moving in or out of your route to the Transportation Supervisor.
  9. Report to the Transportation Supervisor, verbally and in writing, any mechanical failure or repair needed.
  10. Remind sponsors of their responsibility for the cleanliness of the bus on special trips.
  11. Personal cell phones/electronics must be turned off while the bus is moving. Drop students off the bus at their scheduled stops unless they have a written consent form from the parent. The bus driver is responsible for the student's safety from the time he/she gets on the bus until he/she gets to school and is returned to the bus stop in the afternoon.
  12. Report any accident immediately to the Transportation Supervisor, regardless of how small it might seem. Also report any possible hazards encountered or any other problems that might arise.
  13. Refrain students from operating the stop sign, light controls, door, etc. at any time.
  14. Operate the school bus as prescribed by the state and local laws.
  15. Conduct at least two bus evacuation/fire drills during the school year.
  16. Drive activity trips as assigned. Additional stops will not be made without prior approval of administration.
