Job description

We’re looking for a Power System Studies Engineer, with experience on Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies. In this remote role, you’ll work alongside a collaborative T amp;D Engineering and Consulting team to solve technical challenges across transmission, distribution, load, and generation. You’ll perform studies, prepare reports, and contribute to meaningful projects at power plants, hydroelectric dams, and large-scale industrial sites.

What You’ll Do:
  • Perform power system studies, including power flow, transient stability, short-circuit, harmonics, EMT, and techno-economic analysis for transmission, distribution, and generation systems
  • Apply first-principles knowledge of electric power systems, as well as regulatory standards, rules, guidelines, and tariffs
  • Support study scripting and troubleshooting through all phases of execution
  • Collaborate with engineering and consulting staff to understand study requirements and deliver high-quality work that meets technical and commercial objectives
  • Manage technical and commercial data with confidentiality, ensuring proper handling of sensitive project information.
  • Coordinate project setup and closeout with supervisors and support personnel
  • Track project hours, review time logs with supervisors, and alert leadership of potential budget or scheduling concerns
  • Participate in meetings to discuss project progress, address workload issues, and prepare relevant materials in advance.
  • Submit project time reports accurately and promptly to support accounting and payroll processes
  • Communicate regularly with management to discuss project goals, issues, and open items
The Experience We’re Looking For:
  • 3–6 years of experience in power system studies, engineering analysis, or a related technical field
  • Proficiency with power system simulation software and modeling tools
  • Previous experience conducting EMT PSCAD studies
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel for technical tables and Microsoft Word for report preparation
  • Comfortable reading technical manuals, writing reports, and delivering presentations in English
Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% across the U.S. and Canada
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Available for occasional extended or irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Capable of sitting at a computer for extended periods, moving within an office environment, and lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Proficient in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English for safe and effective communication
Bonus Points for:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering; additional experience may be substituted
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification
  • Experience with scripting languages used in power system software
  • Familiarity with NERC reliability standards, utility interconnection requirements, or tariff regulations
  • Proven ability to manage client communication and balance multiple projects
  • Power systems consulting or utility engineering background
