How much do transcranial magnetic stimulation research jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 13, 2026, the average yearly pay for transcranial magnetic stimulation research in the United States is $80,570.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $61,000.00 and $99,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) research?

Professionals in TMS research often encounter challenges such as ensuring participant safety, maintaining rigorous experimental protocols, and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. Additionally, they must stay updated with evolving regulatory requirements and adapt to the rapid advancements in neurotechnology. Effective collaboration with clinicians, engineers, and data analysts is also essential for successful study execution and meaningful research outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) research?

To thrive in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Research, you typically need a strong background in neuroscience, psychology, or biomedical engineering, often supported by an advanced degree. Familiarity with neuroimaging software, TMS devices, data analysis tools like MATLAB or SPSS, and relevant certifications in human subjects research are crucial. Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication enable strong collaboration and precise experimental execution. These capabilities are vital for ensuring reliable research outcomes, participant safety, and meaningful scientific contributions.

What is transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) research?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) research involves studying the effects and applications of non-invasive magnetic pulses on specific areas of the brain. Researchers use TMS to investigate brain function, treat neuropsychiatric disorders like depression, and explore cognitive processes. This field combines neuroscience, psychology, and biomedical engineering to develop safe and effective protocols for both clinical and experimental use. TMS research helps improve our understanding of brain-behavior relationships and advances novel therapeutic approaches.

Job description

Technician Position

Position Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Technician to join our growing interventional psychiatry practice. This role is ideal for someone interested in both clinical and administrative aspects of mental health care, with an emphasis on Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato (esketamine) treatments. The ideal candidate is compassionate, organized, and proactiveโ€”comfortable supporting patients through cutting-edge treatments while also engaging in community outreach to build professional referral relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Duties: Administer TMS treatments in accordance with established clinical protocols under physician supervision.
  • Monitor patients during Spravato treatments, ensuring safety and adherence to REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) requirements.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to patients during their treatment sessions.
  • Document treatment sessions and maintain accurate clinical records.
  • Administrative Duties: Assist with scheduling TMS and Spravato patients, confirming appointments, and managing follow-ups.
  • Obtain and manage prior authorizations for TMS and Spravato treatments from insurance providers.
  • Collect co-pays and patient payments, ensure proper documentation, and coordinate with billing personnel.
  • Order medications and clinical supplies, maintaining proper inventory levels and storage practices.
  • Communicate with pharmacies and insurance companies as needed to coordinate patient care.
  • Marketing & Outreach: Conduct door-to-door marketing to local primary care and psychiatry practices to promote our services and generate referrals.
  • Maintain a log of outreach visits and follow-up communications.
  • Distribute brochures, business cards, and other practice materials.
  • Represent the practice in a professional and courteous manner.

Requirements Qualifications: Associate's or bachelor's degree in psychology, healthcare, or related field preferred. Prior experience with TMS or Spravato (or other mental health treatments) is highly desirable but not requiredโ€”training will be provided. Excellent interpersonal skills, with a patient-first attitude. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Must be comfortable traveling locally for marketing visits (driver's license and reliable transportation required). Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and basic office software (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office). Comfortable discussing treatment services with patients, providers, and external offices.

Benefits - $20 per hour - 10 hours to start per week with build up of hours over time
