The Department is focused on providing high-quality customer service and offers unique opportunities to gain in-depth and diverse experience in the planning profession.

The ideal candidate prioritizes problem solving and collaboration and thrives in a fast-paced, result-oriented environment. Job Summary Under the general direction of the Customer Service Center Manager, the Training Specialist manages the Department of Planning and Zoning's Training Program by developing a comprehensive curriculum that meets staff needs and maintaining a tracking system to document employee training. The Training Specialist assesses current training requirements, identifies gaps in departmental processes and procedures, and develops new or updated documentation and standard operating procedures as needed.

The position creates training materials using departmental procedures, determines the most effective instructional formats, delivers training to staff and related audiences, and identifies components appropriate for onboarding and refresher training. The role also provides occasional support to other departments, the development community, and the general public. The successful candidate will be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with department leadership, staff, and internal and external stakeholders throughout County Government.

The position requires experience developing PowerPoint presentations and delivering them to audiences ranging from small groups to large sessions of up to 100 participants. The Training Specialist must be able to work independently, manage multiple training projects simultaneously, and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational and time-management abilities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Planning and Zoning, or a related field; two (2) years of related work experience facilitating training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred experience in Planning & Zoning and/or local government. Job Contingencies and Special Requirements This position requires a valid driver's license, driving record, credit, and criminal background checks. Relocation assistance is available to successful candidates who live more than 40 miles away.
