What is the opportunity?

RBC's Global Functions Technology (GFT) is hiring Senior Business Systems Analysts to join its Retail Credit & Climate Risk technology (Data & AI) team. In this role, you'll be responsible for delivering requirements, functional and non-functional specifications and driving the implementation of predictive analytics and ML model products-including data ETL pipelines, feature stores, and the deployment of offline and online models. You'll work with big data and Python technologies, engineering solutions for high compute/memory infrastructure use cases that solve real business challenges.

What will you do?

Requirement Analysis & Strategic Documentation

  • Engage and partner with Model Developer and Strategy teams to deploy data pipelines, prescriptive analytics, and ML model applications that drive business value

  • Support Product Managers, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters in planning and executing projects while maintaining alignment with broader technology objectives

  • Facilitate information gathering sessions by leading discussions, managing group dynamics, and maintaining focus to accomplish project goals-translating these sessions into comprehensive requirements documentation, business use cases, feasibility analysis, and cross-functional diagrams

  • Work with senior stakeholders to validate requirements through structured reviews and walkthroughs, ensuring system specifications meet business expectations; negotiate solutions when trade-offs are needed

  • Partner with platform engineering teams to ensure technical capabilities and data requirements are clearly understood, identify dependencies and integration points

  • Document both functional and non-functional requirements with clarity and precision

Data Analysis & Sourcing Strategy

  • Analyze incoming datasets and develop detailed requirements & specifications around sourcing solutions, data provisioning, and transformation approaches

  • Complete comprehensive data profiling and documentation to identify data sources, gaps, and quality issues

  • Apply compliance and information security guidelines within the context of datasets and business requirements; identify data accuracy needs and evaluate solution options

Communication, Planning & Quality Assurance

  • Support Architects and Development teams in designing and implementing technical solutions that balance business needs with technical feasibility

  • Participate in test reviews and user acceptance testing in collaboration with the project team to ensure deliverable quality

  • Lead implementation planning, post-implementation validations, and L2 production incident analysis as needed, while managing risks, assumptions, and constraints

  • Communicate findings and recommendations to appropriate stakeholders with clarity and influence

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience as a Business Systems Analyst managing requirements on large and complex projects, demonstrating ability to work independently, apply critical and strategic thinking, and manage multiple competing priorities

  • Strong business domain understanding of Financial Services, Retail Credit Risk, Retail and Commercial Banking; excellent data analysis capabilities and solid background with complex software products (preferably cloud/data analytics focused)

  • Hands-on experience delivering technology projects using Agile methodology, with proven ability to execute within iterative delivery frameworks

  • Requirements planning and prioritization expertise, including stakeholder analysis and effort estimation specific to building and designing data pipelines; demonstrated data analysis expertise using SQL, Tableau, Pyspark, or Python for both batch and real-time use cases

Nice to Have:

  • Master's degree in a Quantitative subject

  • Experience in data modeling, entity-relationship diagramming, ETL processes, and API schema definitions

  • Experience working with Retail Credit Banking data or consulting firms specializing in implementation consulting

  • Hands-on experience with Big Data technologies (such as Cloudera Data Platform), working directly with Hive databases on HDFS

  • Understanding of Mainframe technologies (JCLs, COBOLs, Copybooks)
