Medium Voltage Business Development Manager
Position Summary
Capital Electric is seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Medium Voltage Business Development Manager (MV BDM) to lead the growth and expansion of our medium-voltage solutions business throughout our footprint. This individual will serve as the company's subject matter expert for medium-voltage products, applications, and market development, helping position Capital as a leading provider of medium-voltage cable, accessories, power distribution equipment, automation, and engineered solutions.
The MV BDM will work closely with sales, project management, supplier partners, engineers, contractors, utilities, and end users to identify opportunities, develop strategic relationships, support project pursuits, and deliver profitable growth.
This role requires the ability to engage confidently with consulting engineers, electrical contractors, industrial customers, utility personnel, data center developers, and other key decision makers while providing technical guidance and commercial leadership.
Essential Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Growth
  • Develop and execute Capital Electric's medium-voltage growth strategy.
  • Identify and qualify medium-voltage opportunities across:
    • Data centers
    • Industrial manufacturing
    • Utilities
    • Water and wastewater
    • Government and military facilities
    • Healthcare and higher education campuses
  • Build and maintain relationships with consulting engineers, EPCs, contractors, utilities, and major end users.
  • Drive specification influence and early engagement within project lifecycles.
  • Build a robust pipeline of medium-voltage opportunities and track progress from identification through project award.

Technical Leadership
  • Serve as Capital's primary technical resource for medium-voltage solutions.
  • Provide application support for:
    • Medium-voltage cable systems
    • Cable accessories and terminations
    • Pad-mounted transformers
    • Unit substations
    • Medium-voltage switchgear
    • Protective relays
    • Automation and monitoring solutions
  • Assist customers and internal associates with product selection and application recommendations.
  • Participate in project design reviews and technical discussions.

Sales Enablement
  • Partner with account managers, project teams, and strategic account leaders to develop and close opportunities.
  • Conduct joint sales calls and customer presentations.
  • Support quotation development and project strategies.
  • Improve medium-voltage win rates through technical expertise and market intelligence.
  • Assist in developing value propositions, sales tools, and customer-facing collateral.

Supplier & Channel Development
  • Build strategic relationships with key manufacturers and supplier partners.
  • Coordinate joint sales activities and growth initiatives.
  • Identify inventory and stocking opportunities to support business expansion.
  • Leverage manufacturer resources for training, project pursuit, and market development.

Training & Organizational Development
  • Develop and deliver medium-voltage training programs for sales associates and project teams.
  • Create tools and resources that improve organizational understanding of medium-voltage applications and solutions.
  • Support onboarding and development of future medium-voltage specialists.

Qualifications
Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Electrical (preferred), Mechanical, Industrial Engineering
    • Other related technical discipline

Preferred Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of medium-voltage industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with one or more of the following:
    • Medium-voltage cable systems
    • Utility distribution systems
    • Power distribution equipment
    • Industrial electrical systems
    • Data center electrical infrastructure
    • Protective relaying and controls
  • Proven business development, account management, sales engineering, or technical sales experience.
  • Experience working for an electrical distributor, manufacturer, engineering firm, utility, EPC contractor, or industrial electrical contractor.
  • Familiarity with major manufacturers such as Schneider Electric, 3M, Southwire, Encore, Eaton, Panduit, TE Connectivity, and Hubbell.
  • Experience influencing engineering specifications or large project pursuits.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of medium-voltage electrical systems and distribution architectures.
  • Ability to interpret electrical one-line diagrams, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong consultative selling and business development skills.
  • Excellent presentation and communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to build credibility with engineers, contractors, utilities, and end users.
  • Ability to travel throughout Capital Electric's service territory.

Success Metrics
Within the first 12-24 months, the Medium Voltage Business Development Manager will:
  • Establish Capital Electric as a recognized medium-voltage solutions provider.
  • Grow the medium-voltage opportunity pipeline across all operating regions.
  • Increase engagement with consulting engineers and strategic contractors.
  • Develop technical training programs for sales and project teams.
  • Expand manufacturer relationships and supplier-sponsored growth initiatives.
  • Drive profitable sales growth in medium-voltage cable, accessories, power distribution, automation, and engineered solutions.

This position is responsible for building Capital Electric's medium-voltage market presence and creating a sustainable growth platform that supports future expansion into power systems, automation, data center infrastructure, and value-added engineering solutions.
Travel: Ability and willingness to travel as needed for client meetings, site visits, and industry events.
Location: This position may be located anywhere within Capital's operational region, covering southern Pennsylvania through northern Georgia.
Salary: $120,000 to $150,000+ per year with bonus potential
