Job description

Job Title:Manager TraineeOrganizational Unit:Select GeneticsDepartment:FarmsReports To:Farm Manager & Service TechLocation:Goldsboro, NCFLSA Status:Non-exempt
POSITION PURPOSE
This position is responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations of the farm in a safe and cost-effective way while training to independently manage a company farm(s).
KEY TRAINING AREAS
During your training and development, you will:
  • Participate in all scheduled training rotations and complete assigned learning objectives within each phase.
  • Learn and apply company biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety standards in daily operations.
  • Support farm operations by assisting with bird care, feeding, watering, and environmental control.
  • Observe and perform hatchery processes including egg handling, incubation, hatching, and poult processing.
  • Assist in monitoring flock health, environmental conditions, and performance data.
  • Develop leadership and communication skills through collaboration with farm and hatchery staff.
  • Observe and perform breeding activities such as egg collection, artificial insemination, and semen collection
  • Participate in maintenance, repairs, and facility operations.
  • Maintain accurate training documentation and complete performance check-ins.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and respect toward colleagues at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Select Genetics presents a solid platform to serve customers on a national and international scale by providing quality poults, service, and innovation. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies across the world.
The Manager Trainee requirements are as follows:
  • Demonstrate basic proficiency in math and computer skills that are necessary;
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a self-starter without the need for constant supervision;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written, reading, and verbal communication;
  • Demonstrate willingness to help in any area to get the job done and effective time management;
  • Work with a variety of tools and equipment;
  • Successfully work with live animals;
  • Wash and disinfect turkey production facilities in a safe and organized manner;
  • Run/review activity reports determining the progress and status in attaining objectives, conference with the Service Tech to revise objectives and plans following current conditions.
  • Deliver supplies and equipment to various locations as needed;
  • Develop alongside Management to lead, train, motivate, and mentor employees on the farm with the objective of building and maintaining a high-performing team to meet or exceed production goals;
  • Perform the job duties while constantly moving and using hands, occasionally lifting objects while being exposed to dust, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals, and fumes;
  • Present a positive and professional image of the company by exhibiting courtesy and professionalism in everything you do;
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work varied schedules where some weekends will be required;
  • The responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the company's needs to include other duties as assigned by direct Supervisor.
  • If required to drive a company vehicle must pass MVR.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A College Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Does not own or operate around backyard poultry, foul, or swine operations off duty.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of animal husbandry and welfare preferred.
  • A valid North Carolina Driver's License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record if needed.
  • Have the ability to push, bend, stoop, squat, pull and lift 50lbs or more
  • Ability and willingness to develop and demonstrate a solid understanding of basic business practices;
    • the ability to lead and manage others;
    • the ability to build creative, productive, and cohesive teams;
    • excellent communication skills including verbal, written and listening;
    • the ability to be self-sufficient and able to organize and prioritize work;
    • the ability to work under pressure;
    • the ability to read and interpret relevant technical, industry, government regulations and legislation;
    • the ability to communicate interact, influence, persuade all levels of employees.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills is a plus.
