Neonatologist - Assistant or Associate Professor Level

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital - Washington D.C.

The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., is seeking a full-time Neonatologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

We are looking for a board-certified or board-eligible Neonatologist with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care and teaching, along with an interest in research. This is an opportunity to practice high-acuity neonatal medicine while contributing to the education and academic mission of a leading teaching and research hospital.

About Our Level IV NICU

The NICU at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is the only Level IV neonatal intensive care facility in the Washington, D.C., region for high-risk pregnancies and deliveries and serves as a maternal and neonatal regional referral center.

Our neonatal team cares for critically ill newborns and infants with a wide range of complex medical and surgical diagnoses, with access to advanced neonatal technologies and therapies, including:

  • Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
  • High-frequency ventilation
  • Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO)
  • Whole-body therapeutic hypothermia
  • Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)
  • Video laryngoscopy for neonatal intubation
  • Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)
  • Amplitude-integrated EEG and video EEG
  • Multiple modes of invasive and noninvasive respiratory support
  • Human milk analysis to support personalized neonatal nutrition

The neonatal team provides coordinated care beginning before delivery with prenatal consultation for high-risk pregnancies and continuing through acute NICU care, step-down care, discharge, and high-risk neonatal and neurodevelopmental follow-up. Neonatologists collaborate with Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, and pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists to provide comprehensive care for high-risk and critically ill newborns.

Regional Neonatal Transport

MedStar Georgetown has a robust 24/7 neonatal transport program providing both helicopter and ground transport for critically ill newborns.

The program accepts referrals from Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and overseas, extending the reach of MedStar Georgetown's specialized neonatal care throughout the region and beyond.

Teaching, Research & Academic Environment

The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine is home to a fully ACGME-accredited Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship and is actively involved in the education of fellows, residents, and medical students.

The Division's areas of interest include:

  • New modalities of assisted ventilation

  • Neonatal neurology
  • Infectious disease
  • Quality improvement
  • Human milk and neonatal nutrition
  • Apnea
  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD)

The fellowship program emphasizes excellence in clinical care, research, teaching, quality improvement, and leadership, creating a dynamic academic environment for faculty and trainees.
