Job description

The Front-End Web Developer will support a range of client website projects, focusing on building responsive, high-performance web experiences across a variety of web platforms and frameworks. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced agency environment and can take designs from concept to execution-building clean, scalable, and high-performing websites that meet both user and business needs. You'll collaborate closely with designers, account managers, and strategists to bring digital experiences to life while ensuring reliability, usability, and long-term maintainability. This is a freelance/ contractor role.
Responsibilities:
  • Build, customize, and maintain responsive website templates, themes, and reusable UI components.
  • Work within WordPress architecture, including The Loop, hooks (actions/filters), and custom post types.
  • Design and implement modular content schemas and custom fields for efficient client editing.
  • Integrate and customize third-party modules, e-commerce solutions, web forms, and third-party APIs.
  • Build and manage site pages using visual editors, page builders, and block systems while upholding clean code standards.
  • Develop responsive, accessible web experiences using HTML5, CSS3 (Flexbox/Grid), and JavaScript (vanilla + jQuery).
  • Translate Figma or Adobe XD designs into pixel-perfect, production-ready websites.
  • Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility.
  • Maintain consistency with brand guidelines and design systems.
  • Optimize websites for speed and performance (Core Web Vitals, image optimization, caching strategies).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues such as plugin conflicts, broken layouts, or site outages.
  • Perform routine updates, QA, and ongoing site maintenance.
  • Support website migrations (staging to production, host-to-host transfers).
  • Implement and maintain site security best practices (SSL, updates, monitoring).
  • Work with MySQL/phpMyAdmin for basic database management.
  • Manage hosting environments (e.g., WP Engine, SiteGround, cPanel).
  • Handle DNS updates and domain configurations when needed.
  • Work within version control systems (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket).
  • Write clean, well-documented code to support collaboration and handoffs.
  • Communicate timelines, blockers, and technical recommendations clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven agency environment.

Skills/Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in front-end and WordPress development, ideally within an agency or client services environment.
  • Strong portfolio of live client websites demonstrating custom template, theme, or component development across modern web platforms.
  • Deep understanding of responsive design and modern front-end development practices.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Solid experience with Git version control, including branch management, pull requests, and collaborative code workflows.
  • Experience with ACF and custom WordPress implementations.
  • Experience optimizing sites for performance and SEO best practices.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Experience collaborating with design teams in Figma or Adobe XD.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted development tools to improve efficiency.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Adaptable when priorities shift or timelines compress.
  • Reliable and responsive during agreed working hours.
  • Able to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical team members.
