They typically work under the supervision of experienced developers and learn how to follow federal coding standards, ensure security compliance, and support government IT projects. Their responsibilities often include coding, testing, debugging, and documenting software, while gaining hands-on experience with tools and processes used in federal environments. This position is ideal for recent graduates or those transitioning into government tech roles.

What projects and technologies does a trainee federal Java developer work with?

As a Trainee Federal Java Developer, you will likely be assigned to projects that support government applications, such as internal web portals, case management systems, or data processing tools. Early tasks often include maintaining and updating existing Java-based applications, writing unit tests, and debugging under the guidance of senior developers. You’ll commonly use technologies like Java EE, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and version control systems such as Git. Collaboration is key, so expect to participate in daily stand-up meetings, code reviews, and documentation efforts within an agile development team.
