Mobile sources are now the largest contributor to air pollution in Connecticut, and the transportation sector is central to both the state's Comprehensive Energy Strategy and its federal Clean Air Act obligations. The group's work focuses on achieving air quality improvements, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and accelerating the shift away from gasoline toward cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable energy sources.\r\n\r\nResponsibilities of the Mobile Sources Group:\r\n\r\n Assuring effective implementation of mobile source programs established under state and federal law for both onroad and nonroad sources.\r\n Overseeing transportation fuels, including gasoline, diesel, and alternative or renewable fuels.\r\n Regulating and enforcing requirements related to vehicle idling.\r\n Implementing programs that support Connecticut's transition to more sustainable transportation modes, including transportation electrification.\r\n\r\nDuties\r\nTo achieve the state's air quality and greenhouse gas reduction goals, the successful candidate will be trained to:\r\n\r\n Administer grants that support mobile source and clean transportation initiatives.\r\n Contribute to the development of policies for current and future mobile source programs.\r\n Implement efforts aimed at innovative and nontraditional strategies that advance cleaner transportation.\r\n This position requires a highly motivated individual with strong technical and communication skills.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCareer progression within the State of Connecticut: starting with Engineer Trainee, advancing to Air Pollution Control Engineer 1, then Air Pollution Control Engineer 2, then Air Pollution Control Engineer 3, and ending at Supervising Air Pollution Control Engineer.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nOUR MISSION:\r\nThe Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is charged with conserving, improving and protecting the natural resources and the environment of the state of Connecticut as well as making cheaper, cleaner and more reliable energy available for the people and businesses of the state. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for receiving training in introductory professional engineering work for the development of technical and professional engineering skills and knowledge in order to qualify for advancement to the technical engineering work of the agency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

\r\n\r\n\r\n Knowledge of basic engineering theories, principles and methods;\r\n Skill in the use of drafting and calculating instruments;\r\n Considerable ability to perform mathematical computations, making neat and accurate drawings and preparing minor design and structural details;\r\n Ability to utilize computer software.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program.\r\n

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Experience with spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation programs.\r\n Experience solving technical problems and adapting to changing priorities.\r\n Experience working in both a team environment and on individual projects.\r\n Experience managing projects and meeting deadlines.\r\n Experience with modeling platforms and data analysis.\r\n Experience or academic coursework pertaining to air pollution, mobile sources or electric vehicles.\r\n Experience with principles and practices of environmental and policy analysis working with clean air programs, statues, regulations, guidance or models, including, the Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES) model.\r\n Experience preparing and writing reports to present findings in a public setting.\r\n\r\n
