  • Full-time Nights (3) 12 hour shifts 
  • Some days for scoring and other clinical rotation
  • 4 Weeks of days 8-4:30pm for ASTEP Program at Alton Memorial.
  • Must complete paid training program. Approximately 900 hours of clinicals

Overview

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital proudly serves the health care needs of families in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties. The 102-bed community hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services including the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, the Breast Health and Women’s Center, the Cardiology Center, the Neurosurgery Center and the Outpatient Surgery and Endoscopy Center.

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital is an Accredited Chest Pain Center and carries a Level II stroke certification. Additionally, the hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, dermatology, surgery and pulmonology. Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital also offers outpatient services including physical therapy, a sleep lab, and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation.

At Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, every decision is made in the best interest of patients and families. The Sleep and Breathing Lab provides outpatient services and is accredited by The American Academy of Sleep Medicine.


Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

A Sleep/Polysomnographic Trainee works under the direct supervision of a Registered Sleep Technologist or a Registered Respiratory Therapist. While in this role, the Trainee develops competency in and helps perform basic sleep testing procedures and associated interventions. They will also ensure care provided is safe, effective, developmentally and age appropriate while complying with all quality and regulatory requirements as well as quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, the Trainee will provide cleaning, processing and general maintenance of all sleep lab equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop skills in collecting, analyzing and integrating patient information to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).
  • Develop skills in determining final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
  • Learn to select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary.
  • Develop skills in the application of electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
  • Learn to perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
