Job Description:

The Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee is to counsel individuals requiring assistance in dealing with substance use disorder. This will be carried out in compliance with the agency's values, mission, and philosophy. ASAM Criteria, WAC requirements, adherence to the clinical manual.

Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide a quality treatment experience for clients by engaging in and modeling healthy relationship skills while assessing treatment planning, and counseling with clients in group and individual settings.
  • Communicate client's needs, progress, problems, and recommendations, to treatment teams and various agencies involved in the client's life. When required, represent the client in court.
  • Understand and implement the essential elements of the ASAM assessment, placement process, objectives of individualized treatment planning as directed by ASAM criteria, and the essential elements of the ASAM continuous stay criteria.
  • Demonstrates effective and concise client and family education in the form of lecture, video, written, or individualized media.
  • Document all individual and group sessions and perform case reviews of each client's progress in accordance with WAC requirements and timeliness.
  • Understand the need for crisis intervention in case of acute emotional of physical distress.
  • Be aware of the legal obligations of emergency management, i.e., CPS involvement reports to police.
  • Understand how to make appropriate and effective referrals.
  • Participate in team meetings and clinical trainings.
  • Complete requirements and keep licensure current.


Qualifications:

Successful applicants will:

  • High School Degree or GED required.
  • A Bachelor's experience and education related to the specific treatment needs of the various population is preferred.
  • Must possess the Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee credential as required by WAC.
  • Must have a professional license and registration number from the State Department of Health.
  • Trainees will receive additional support and training during their initial hours (1500 hours for Masters, 2000 for Bachelors, and 2500 for Associates) and will be expected to be competent in all areas at the completion of the Trainee process. The supervisor will sign off on all documentation made by Trainee or other assigned certified counselors.
