$77,075.00 - $119,466.00Job description Summary:
Cisco Network Engineers are responsible for the design and physical construction of the enterprise network, whether it is for computer communications or telecommunications. This includes the placement of all of the physical equipment such as routers, communication switches, firewalls and cables used to connect the equipment. Cisco Network Engineer will also be skilled in wireless architecture including wireless controllers and wireless access points.

The Cisco Network Engineer - Level II will:

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, high-performance wireless networks across Albany Med's multi-site healthcare environment
  • Assemble, build and configure network hardware to pre-established design standards and complete associated documentation
  • Monitor day-to-day network performance, troubleshoot network problems and outages, participate in scheduled upgrades and collaborate with network architects on network optimization
  • Secure network systems by enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access
  • Support and administration of firewall environments in line with IT security policy
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations; and obtaining Cisco certifications
  • Report network operational status
  • Upgrade data network equipment to the latest stable firmware releases
  • Apply configurations to routing and switching equipment
  • Apply configuration of hosted IP voice services
  • Perform basic configuration of firewalls
  • Provide remote support of on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation
  • Provide remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation
  • Be responsible for system maintenance of network/internet/intranet hardware
  • Be expected to support customers on a daily basis. Customer responsibilities include:
    • Act as a liaison between customer and vendor to solve software/hardware problems
    • Participate in the help desk environment with regard to problem identification, logging and resolution
    • Provide education for customers with regard to Albany Med's network
    • Provide offsite support of remote customers
  • Assist in configuration and installation of all network peripherals

Supervision

  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities

Contact with others

  • Primary contact will be internal to Information Technology
  • Contact with other Albany Med departments will be limited and in support of job specific activities/on project teams
  • Contact with vendors will be limited to support calls as needed
  • Contact with others outside of Albany Med will be limited to job specific forums/organizations for technical collaboration
