Lead Academic Innovation in Hematology/Oncology at Our Organization
The Department of Medicine at our institution is seeking applications and nominations for the role of Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology. This is a remarkable opportunity for a distinguished academic physician to guide a developing division within a dynamic, mission-focused academic health system.
At our medical center, you will become part of a collaborative network of clinicians, researchers, educators, and trainees who are committed to enhancing discovery, improving patient outcomes, and training future leaders in cancer care.
The Division and Academic EnvironmentA Division within a Comprehensive Academic Cancer Program
Our Cancer Center is dedicated to advancing oncology through innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care. The Hematology/Oncology Division is integrated within a comprehensive cancer program and serves as the academic foundation for faculty and practices at our medical center, as well as two affiliated community-based cancer sites in the Greater Boston area.
This framework offers a unique opportunity for translational research, population health initiatives, and the expansion of clinical trials across varied patient demographics.
Clinical ExcellenceThe clinical practice excels in several key areas, including a specialized amyloidosis and myeloma program, an autologous and allogeneic bone marrow transplant program, active CAR-T trials for both malignant and non-malignant conditions, an Adolescent and Young Adult Survivor Program, and patient navigation services tailored to the Boston Chinatown and Asian language communities. The clinical practice encompasses the Boston site within the academic medical center and two community practices equipped with full infusion centers.
Robust Clinical and Translational Research InfrastructureThe Division enjoys substantial institutional backing for research through the Neely Center for Cancer Clinical Research, which oversees a diverse and active portfolio of clinical trials, including cooperative group, industry-sponsored, and investigator-initiated studies.
Faculty members collaborate extensively with the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute and basic and translational researchers across our university, creating valuable opportunities to connect laboratory discoveries with clinical applications.
The Research Enterprise at our institution prioritizes cancer research as one of five key areas for investment and growth, providing resources for pilot projects, supporting multidisciplinary translational research teams, and facilitating strategic hires.
The Cancer Center has received multiple national accreditations (CoC, NAPBC, FACT, ACR), demonstrating a strong commitment to excellence in both clinical care and research.
Academic Collaboration Across Our UniversityThe Division fosters strong partnerships with the School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. These collaborations enhance interdisciplinary research, grant development, and innovative educational initiatives.
Commitment to Education and MentorshipOur medical center serves as the primary academic teaching hospital for the School of Medicine and offers a highly regarded fellowship program in Hematology and Oncology.
The Division Chief will play a pivotal role in promoting educational excellence, mentoring faculty and trainees, and strengthening the academic pipeline.
Leadership OpportunityThe Division Chief will provide strategic leadership across all missions—clinical care, research, and education—with a particular focus on:
Expanding the Division’s research portfolio, including clinical trials and translational science.
Recruiting, developing, and mentoring academic faculty.
Enhancing extramural funding and national academic visibility.
Advancing interdisciplinary and cross-institutional collaborations.
Improving fellowship and graduate medical education programs.
Fostering a culture of academic inquiry, innovation, and inclusion.
MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Hematology and Oncology.
Eligibility for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level at our School of Medicine.
Proven record of academic achievement, including peer-reviewed publications and ongoing scholarly activity.
Demonstrated success in academic leadership, program development, and faculty mentorship.
Experience in clinical or translational research, with a preference for a proven track record of funding.
Strong dedication to education and trainee development.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Interested candidates should submit a CV and cover letter outlining their academic achievements, leadership experience, and vision for the Division.
