Job description

  • The Trainee Laboratory Technician is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable PSD to customers.
  • The Trainee Laboratory Technician identifies opportunities to improve service delivery.
  • This person performs quality assurance tests on company products, prepares laboratory reports prior to service delivery at the wellsite, and provides advanced technical support during additive selection and fluid design.
  • The Trainee Laboratory Technician maintains contact with the Client Support Labs and/or operating locations, product centers and the InTouch repository.
  • Ensure job deliverables are accurate and delivered on time.
  • Develop the competency level required to perform advanced additive selection and fluid design.
  • Ensure that laboratory equipment is in clean, working condition and that waste is regularly disposed.
  • Prepare technical presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure the laboratory operates according to required standards.
  • Assist the Design/Technical Engineer and Product Champions with technical support as required.
  • Perform risk analysis before each task or job to identify and mitigate potential safety or quality concerns.
  • Participate in Service Quality Meetings with customers and improve performance using action plans.
  • Participate in HSE and Quality initiatives.
  • Wear PPE and observe HSE policies.
  • Maintain the required safety training.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Perform quality control testing on cement slurries, and additives to ensure they maintain specific properties for optimal downhole well integrity. Tests include viscosity, stability, filter press, thickening time, compressive strength, and water quality analysis.
  • Ensure lab equipment is maintained, calibrated, and repaired as necessary. Safely using a variety of hand and power tools in doing so.
  • Collect samples of chemical additives from the warehouse for pilot testing
  • Wear full PPE as required by the task (including but not limited to: coveralls, dust mask, safety goggles, chemical gloves, steel toes, hard hat)
  • Operate medium-duty machinery such as fork lifts, pallet jacks, or similar
  • Keep lab work-area clean and organized (sweep, mop, dusting, trash-out, etc.)
  • Help other departments with their workload should there be the need.
  • Maintain current safety certifications as dictated by the job role. And submit risk identification reports to an online reporting tool.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures regarding safety, health, ethics, I.T. security, and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent who are willing and eager to learn a specialized set of skills to become a technical expert in O&G cement fluid design, quality control, and lab operation.
  • well-familiar with Microsoft operating systems and Office apps.
  • solid attention to detail, and unwavering ability to follow procedures
  • Willing to work a 8 on / 4 rotating between day shift and night shift
  • flexible to infrequent schedule changes as dictated by the needs of the business.
  • Able to pass company mandated pre-employment screening.
  • Comfortable working either as part a team with other members in the staff, and can also adapt to working stand-alone.
  • Available to occasionally travel for additional training classes, or to support another lab with fluctuating workloads.
