Description:

The essential job functions performed include inspection of buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair. Performs minor plumbing maintenance. Performs painting, carpentry and masonry work including the preparation of surfaces. Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space. The positions also performs a number of other tasks including: pavement patching, maintenance of storm sewer systems including the repair, cleaning of mains and structures, plowing and removal of snow from streets, tree trimming, tree removals, brush chipping, landscape maintenance, water main repairs, and the operation of equipment including backhoes, front end loaders, street sweepers and other equipment as assigned.


The work often requires physical strength and endurance, including the ability to stand, bend, pull, push, kneel and regularly lift more than 100lbs at any time and to withstand extended exposure to the elements. Employees may be assigned and rotated at the employer’s option to any job assignment or any shift. On call and overtime work assigned by rotation among all maintenance employees. Overtime work is mandatory.

Education Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an apprenticeship program, certificate program or associates degree in a related facilities maintenance (i.e. plumbing, carpentry, HVAC) field is preferred.

Must possess a valid Illinois CDL Class B vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Any offer of employment will be conditioned upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical, which includes a drug and alcohol screen. Probationary period of one year. Mandatory residency requirement within one year of employment (Randall Road to Route 14 to Route 176 on the west, Route 176 on the north, Lake Michigan on the east, Lake Shore Drive and Roosevelt Road; westward to Ogden Avenue (Route 34); southwesterly and westerly to Route 59; north to its nexus with Route 64 and then westerly to a terminus at the intersection of Route 64 and Randall Road.)
