JOB DESCRIPTION

DEDICATED TRAILER TECHNICIAN

Job Summary

The Trailer Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on all trailers and related equipment. This role requires solid knowledge of mechanical tools, service and diagnostic equipment, and repair procedures. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, analyze, and diagnose trailers and related equipment for mechanical issues and faulty parts
  • Perform requested repairs according to industry standards and manufacturer specifications
  • Perform routine maintenance on trailers and related equipment
  • Develop and document action plans for all repairs; follow checklists and established protocols
  • Aptitude in using various hand tools, power tools and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)
  • Conduct trailer body work and under-carriage work (e.g. air bag replacement, cross-members, dolly legs, tandem system)
  • Analyze and diagnose mechanical issues
  • Follow checklists and protocols while conducting repairs
  • Document cause/complaint/correction in software system
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe workplace, including regularly cleaning and care of workspace, tools and equipment
  • Collaborate with coworkers, and support team goals while being able to work independently
  • Follow all health and safety rules and guidelines, as well as common sense safety practices
  • Safely operate a mobile repair vehicle (if hiring for Mobile Technician)
  • Safety operate a Yard Switcher to move trailers on yard and into shop
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Behavioral and Knowledge-Based Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience: 12 years of mechanical or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications: ASE certifications highly desired but not required.
  • Must pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test, background check (10-year), and drug/medical physical exam.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
  • Ability to read and write in English for documentation and communication.
  • Must have own tools and safety gear (steel-toed shoes, welding protection).
  • Possesses a valid drivers license (If hiring for Mobile Technician)
  • Possesses an acceptable driving record according to company Driver Fleet Policy (if a Mobile Technician)
  • Must be insurable according to our current insurance companys requirements (acceptable driving record, age minimum and maximum requirements) {if a Mobile Technician}
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Vocational/ Trade-School certification preferred
  • Able to pass pre-employment knowledge or skill testing designed to determine probability of success on the job and mechanic classification

  • Excellent communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Heavy Work: Exert up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
  • Frequent activities: Walking, standing, climbing, stooping, crouching, balancing, kneeling, and crawling.
  • Manual dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers for grasping, typing, and operating tools.
  • Sensory abilities: Talking, hearing, & vision sufficient for detailed inspection, safe operation of tools, machinery, and vehicles.
  • Able to work in uncomfortable conditions (heat, cold, small spaces)
  • Able to work in physically demanding positions
  • Able to scale ladders or other means of access to trailer roof or interior

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Rate: $25 $35 (depending on experience and location)
