WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC
THE POSITION
Directly reporting to the Supervising Public Works Inspector overseeing the Public Works Inspection Team within the Land Development Section, the Public Works Inspector I/II will be a part of our growing Inspection Team working closely with our Land Development Engineers and Permit Technicians.
This position is primarily responsible for the review and inspection of construction activity to ensure compliance with applicable codes, coordination between Building and Safety staff and other City departments, and maintaining a high level of service to the public. This position also provides a high level of customer service to the public through inspection of construction throughout the City, working with contractors, developers, and utility companies, and providing inspections and assistance to projects of all sizes throughout the City.
You'll be responsible for:
- Ensuring world class construction of street, traffic signal, storm drain, and all other improvements in the right-of-way through the review of plans, specifications, and inspection of public, private, and utility improvements.
- Creating a safer community by reviewing traffic control devices and their placement.
- Providing high quality customer service through regular interactions with contractors and members of the public.
- Providing top-notch communication including coordination with other City departments, contractors, members of the public, and utility agencies; internal and external meetings; and thorough documentation of inspection activities.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED
Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from high school, supplemented by college-level coursework in Civil Engineering or public works construction and design, or equivalent training and:
Public Works Inspector I: Two years of sub-professional engineering, journey- level public works, or heavy construction experience, including some construction inspection experience or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Public Works Inspector I: Knowledge of principles, methods, materials, equipment and safety hazards of construction; applicable laws, regulations and codes governing the construction of public works projects; mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry; technical report writing and preparation of correspondence. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with engineers, developers, contractors and the public; exercise independent judgment; learn inspection techniques for routine and moderately difficult construction and enforce compliance with plans, specifications, ordinances and codes; learn to read and interpret engineering plans, blueprints and specifications, records of survey, legal descriptions and tract descriptions; prepare clearly written correspondence and technical reports involving mathematical computations; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; effectively schedule own workload.
