Traffic Person information

What does a traffic person do?

A Traffic Person is responsible for coordinating the flow of vehicles and pedestrians at construction sites or public events to ensure safety and efficiency. They may set up and manage traffic control devices, direct vehicles using signs or hand signals, and communicate with construction crews or event organizers. Their main goal is to prevent accidents, minimize traffic congestion, and protect both workers and the public in areas where normal traffic patterns are disrupted.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a traffic person, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Traffic Person, you need strong knowledge of traffic control procedures, safety regulations, and often a valid traffic control certification. Familiarity with two-way radios, signage, and flagging equipment is typically required, along with the ability to interpret worksite plans. Excellent communication, alertness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills. These skills ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians around worksites, reducing the risk of accidents and keeping projects on schedule.

How does a traffic person typically coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow?

A Traffic Person plays a crucial role in managing the flow of projects and information between departments such as creative, production, and account management. They regularly communicate with team leads to track project statuses, resolve bottlenecks, and update schedules. This coordination ensures that deadlines are met and resources are allocated effectively, helping to prevent miscommunication and delays. Effective Traffic Persons are proactive problem-solvers, often acting as the central point of contact for project-related updates and ensuring all stakeholders remain informed throughout the process.
