What is a traffic manager?
A traffic manager refers to a job in two different fields. There are traffic managers in marketing and advertising agencies, but there are also traffic managers in the logistics and shipping industry. A traffic manager at an advertising agency oversees the flow of projects across different departments. In logistics or shipping, a traffic manager arranges for the transport and delivery of products. In both industries, a traffic manager’s responsibilities are to oversee flow and monitor potential interruptions. Traffic managers work closely with other team members to make sure projects and shipments happen accurately and on time.

| Work Environment | Marketing agencies, advertising departments, media companies. | Media outlets, marketing teams, digital content firms. |

Position Summary
The Flagger / Traffic Manager is responsible for safely directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic around work zones, ensuring compliance with traffic control plans and MUTCD standards, and protecting the safety of crews, drivers, and pedestrians at job sites.
You're being hired as a Flagger / Traffic Manager, but PFS is a full-service facility company, and all field employees are cross-trained to support the complete range of services we provide our clients. Depending on season, weather, and daily work orders, you may be assigned to assist with landscaping, janitorial services, litter and debris pickup, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/flagging, and other services as needed. Snow and ice removal is a mandatory duty for every PFS employee, regardless of primary role, when winter weather events occur.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices (cones, signs, barricades, barrels) per approved traffic control plans.
- Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely through or around work zones using approved flagging techniques.
- Monitor work zone conditions and communicate hazards to crew members and supervisors.
- Follow MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and all applicable state/local traffic control regulations.
- Wear and maintain required high-visibility safety apparel and PPE at all times.
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, drivers, and, when necessary, law enforcement.
- Complete required documentation and incident reports as needed.
- Assist with landscaping and grounds-maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Assist with janitorial and interior/exterior cleaning duties as assigned.
- Perform snow and ice removal (mandatory for all employees) during winter weather events, including shoveling, plowing support, and application of ice-melt products.
- Assist with litter and debris pickup across assigned properties, roadways, parking lots, and common areas.
- Perform other services as needed based on client and business demands.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Flagger certification (e.g., ATSSA or state-approved) preferred; willingness to obtain certification upon hire required.
- Prior experience in traffic control, road construction, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to remain alert and stand for extended periods in active traffic environments.
- Valid driver's license required and a reliable, dependable form of transportation daily (early work start times).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Willingness and ability to cross-train and work across all PFS service lines, including mandatory snow removal.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often near moving traffic.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (signs, cones, barricades).
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including snow and ice.
- Ability to remain alert and react quickly to changing traffic conditions.
- Strong situational awareness and safety mindset.
- Clear, confident communication with drivers, pedestrians, and crew.
- Ability to stay calm and focused in high-traffic, fast-paced environments.
- Adaptability to work across landscaping, janitorial, snow removal, and litter/debris duties as business needs require.
Hours vary by season and daily work orders and may include early mornings, evenings, or weekends. A reliable, dependable form of transportation is required daily due to early work start times.
