Job description

STV's Virginia operation is looking for a Traffic Engineering Specialist to add to the team. This position offers excellent potential for career advancement and growth as this individual would assist other senior staff in guiding transportation agencies in Virginia and DC. We are looking for a passionate & determined entry-level engineer. Candidate will join a team of young engineers and provide technical design and operational analysis.
Responsibilities:

  • Providing professional traffic engineering design and analyses services for transportation improvement projects for VDOT, DDOT, and other transportation agencies in the DMV

  • Developing design plans including signing & pavement marking, traffic signal design, and communications

  • Conduct traffic engineering operational analysis and studies (VISSIM, Synchro, HCS)

  • Perform quantitative traffic safety analyses for roadway and intersection projects, including application of the Highway Safety Manual (HSM) predictive methods

  • Conduct crash data analysis, develop Safety Performance Function (SPF), apply Crash Modification Factors (CMFs), and evaluate existing conditions and proposed countermeasures.

  • Design utilizing AutoCAD and/or MicroStation (depending upon Client)

  • Street Light Design (+)

  • Traffic Signal Design

  • Maintenance of Traffic Design (MOT+)

  • Traffic Signal Timings

  • Signing & Pavement Marking Design

  • Engineering Design Cost estimates & Quantity Takeoffs


Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering

  • At least 3+ years' experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus but not required

  • Experience in traffic analysis software (VISSIM, Synchro)

  • Exposure to MicroStation & AutoCAD drafting software

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
