The Washington, D.C. Structures Division is currently looking to hire a structural engineer with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience. This individual will conduct structural evaluation, design, and investigative work; perform and review analysis and design calculations; execute and manage the preparation of drawings and specifications; manage project budgets and schedules; assist with mentoring junior staff; interact with clients; and support and manage projects in construction.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Work on a wide range of structural engineering analysis and design projects involving steel, concrete, masonry and wood structures.
- Implement design or analysis tasks using a variety of building codes.
- Assist in the preparation of drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Execute the construction-administration phase of projects, including bid assistance, submittal review, site meetings, observations of completed work, etc.
- Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
- Help mentor and develop less experienced engineers.
- Interact with project clients.
- Support proposal development, project scoping, and coordination of internal resources to meet project deadlines and budgets.
- Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition.
What You'll Need:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood frame structures for a Consulting Engineer role. Proficiency with behavior and performance of materials. Will consider more experienced applicants for Senior Consulting Engineer roles.ย
- MS in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- PE license; progress toward SE licensure or interest in obtaining it is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, TMS, NDS, and other applicable standards and codes.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design tools such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, and Revit.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- A proactive, team-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness and ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation, and if applicable, an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
