We are currently seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation team in Baltimore or Fairfax.

This role is ideal for a developing transportation professional who is ready to take an active role in traffic analysis, signal design, and corridor improvement projects across Maryland and Virginia. You will contribute to public-sector transportation initiatives while building expertise in traffic operations, safety, and multimodal infrastructure design.

As a Traffic Engineer, you will work alongside senior engineers and project managers while taking ownership of technical analyses and design tasks that directly support safer and more efficient transportation systems.

What Youโ€™ll Do:

This includes conducting data-driven studies, preparing traffic control device designs, and contributing to the production of construction documents for public infrastructure projects..

Key Responsibilities:

Traffic Analysis & Studies

  • Conduct traffic engineering analyses including signal warrant studies, traffic impact studies, operational analyses, and corridor safety assessments.
  • Perform capacity and level-of-service evaluations using industry-standard software.
  • Support multimodal and safety-focused traffic assessments.

Design & Documentation

  • Assist in the preparation of traffic control device designs, including traffic signals, signage, and pavement markings.
  • Prepare design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for traffic signals, signing and striping, and temporary traffic control.
  • Contribute to maintenance of traffic (MOT) and temporary traffic control plans.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Support senior engineers in preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and exhibits.
  • Coordinate with roadway, structural, environmental, and construction teams.
  • Participate in internal quality control reviews and design meetings.
  • Assist with agency coordination and response to review comments.

What Youโ€™ll Bring:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is required. Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Proficiency with traffic engineering design and analysis software (e.g., Synchro, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO, and applicable MDOT or VDOT standards.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
