Job description

Fishbeck is seeking an accomplished Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Division in Indiana. This position is ideal for a technically proficient, client-focused professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is prepared to lead complex transportation design projects. The successful candidate will oversee initiatives from concept through construction, mentor junior staff, and play a pivotal role in the continued growth of our Indiana transportation practice.
Primary Functions
  • Lead the design and development of traffic engineering components, including maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, and traffic signal systems, ensuring compliance with INDOT standards, the Indiana Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD), and applicable design guidelines.
  • Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
  • Mentor and support junior staff; coordinate with other disciplines and regional offices (OH, MI, IN).
  • Collaborate with clients, local agencies, and contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.

Minimum Physical Requirements
Occasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, and walking. May perform duties in the field and will be required to access and maneuver around project sites and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and from projects is occasionally required. Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering

Experience & Skills:
  • 10+ years of experience in traffic engineering, including INDOT-related projects.
  • Indiana PE license required.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation; experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of INDOT traffic standards and guidelines.
  • Experience with Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Synchro; TransModeler is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ITE Trip Generation Manual, complex MOT design, and traffic studies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with ITS and highway lighting design is a plus.
