JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:  #466 - Supervision & Student-Athlete Safety Monitor Grades 9-12 AHS

REPORT TO:  Superintendent

EVALUATED BY:  Superintendent

JOB SUMMARY:

The  Supervision & Student-Athlete Safety Monitor is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety, security, supervision, and proper behavior of high school student-athletes across all non-instructional program areas. This role focuses on active supervision in high-traffic and high-risk environmentsincluding locker rooms, athletic fields, training facilities, team events, and team transportationto maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment.

QUALIFICATIONS OF POSITION: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Strong communication skills (i.e. telephone, email, staff, students & public).
  • Knowledge of school activity and athletic programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
  • Prior experience supervising youth, working in secondary education, athletics, campus security, or recreational management preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR required (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Availability to work irregular hours, including late afternoons, evenings, and occasional Saturdays during the football season (August through November).
  • Perform physical requirements which may include:
    • Moderate degree of physical stamina
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to use a telephone, computer, and other office equipment
    • Ability to make frequent trips to and from desks, counters, etc. as well as other areas in the school building.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a physical presence in team locker rooms, training areas, and hallways before and after practices, games, and team meetings to deter misconduct or unauthorized visitors.
  • Monitor athletes on the field and sidelines prior to coach arrival, during facility transitions, and while equipment is being issued or stored.
  • Assist coaching staff with supervision during bus loading, transit, and unloading for away games and off-site activities. Ensure students adhere to safety standards during travel.
  • Oversee student-athletes following practices and games until all individuals have been cleared or picked up by authorized parents/guardians.
  • Enforce school district regulations, athletic codes of conduct, and facility rules regarding conduct, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Proactively identify and diffuse potential conflicts, unsafe behaviors, or policy violations among student-athletes.
  • Document and immediately report any injuries, property damage, behavioral infractions, or safety concerns to the Head Football Coach.
  • Secure doors, equipment storage rooms, and facility gates when areas are not in active use.
  • Familiarize oneself with the school's emergency action plans (EAPs), including basic first aid procedures, weather protocols, and facility evacuation routes.
  • Acts as a mandated abuse reporter.
  • Knowledge of Astoria School District Policies and building procedures.
  • Consistent attendance is required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
