Senior Test Analyst - Trading Systems (API / Protocol Testing) (Remote)

Esprow

Manhattan, NY • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Posted 14 days ago

Job description

We are looking for a talented Senior Test Analyst with strong expertise in trading systems, exchange platforms, and protocol-level validation, capable of interpreting functional specifications of matching engines and deriving structured test scenarios, validation strategies, and detailed test cases directly from them.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a highly skilled and dynamic team of engineers delivering widely used enterprise applications within the financial technology domain. The role includes participation in client implementation projects, validation of exchange integrations, certification testing, and contribution to automated and semi-automated testing initiatives using Esprow's applications.
The job requires the ability to work in a small, distributed team environment and to deliver on-time and high-quality results. From time to time, the position may also involve assisting with resolving clients' technical support requests via email and web meetings.
Position Responsibilities
- Contribute to QA testing efforts of Esprow's products, with a primary focus on FIX Protocol, trading APIs, and multi-protocol financial systems.
- Perform functional, integration, regression, system, and certification testing of trading platforms, web services, and messaging-based systems.
- Analyse business and functional specifications of trading systems or matching engines and derive structured test scenarios, validation logic, and detailed test cases directly from them.
- Design comprehensive validation strategies across order types, time-in-force rules, trading phases, matching priorities, and negative scenarios to ensure full coverage of exchange and matching engine behaviour.
- Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans, test cases, and test scenarios aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Analyse business and functional requirements to ensure complete test coverage and validate expected system behaviour, including trade lifecycle and post-trade processing.
- Analyse test results, logs, message structures, protocol flows, and FIX sessions to ensure software quality and recommend preventive and corrective actions.
- Liaise with Project Managers and Development teams to clarify requirements and resolve issues prior to client releases (without acting as a traditional requirements-gathering Business Analyst).
- Support client implementation and integration testing activities where required.
- Contribute to automation initiatives for API and protocol-level testing where applicable.
- Stay up to date with new testing tools, API testing methodologies, and best practices in protocol validation.
Position Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in QA testing within financial technology, capital markets, or trading system environments.
- Proven experience working with exchange platforms, matching engines, or electronic trading systems.
- Experience deriving structured test scenarios and test cases directly from functional specifications of trading systems (e.g., order types, time-in-force, trading phases, matching logic) is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of exchange microstructure, trading workflows, order lifecycle, and matching engine behaviour.
- Solid understanding of FIX Protocol and/or trading APIs.
- Practical experience in API and protocol testing using industry-standard tools or frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS, RESTful services, JSON/XML, status codes, and API validation techniques.
- Experience creating and maintaining test plans, test strategies, regression coverage, and release validation documentation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex trading rules and translate them into effective validation scenarios.
- Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Fluent English speaking and writing skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail - ensuring that no trading rule, protocol nuance, or edge case is overlooked.
Bonus Skills (optional, but would be a plus)
- Experience with exchange certification testing or client onboarding validation.
- Familiarity with messaging protocol concepts such as request/reply, subscriptions, dictionaries, message structure, transports (at least TCP), and session management.
- Experience contributing to automation of API or protocol tests.
- Exposure to risk assessment, regression planning, and structured validation strategy design.
- Experience working in client-facing implementation projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical field.
Ideal Personality
- A mature and reliable professional who genuinely cares about quality and takes ownership of responsibilities.
- Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail.
- Desire to achieve high-quality results, meet deadlines, and help the company and its clients succeed.
- Able to work independently and proactively in a distributed team environment.
- Comfortable working at both technical and business-requirement levels.
- Positive attitude with pride in delivering well-tested and reliable solutions.
- Someone who brings external knowledge to the team and continuously seeks self-improvement.
- Calm and adaptable when facing new challenges or changing priorities.
Benefits You Will Enjoy
- Full time position (mix of onsite and remote).
- Competitive package.
- Career path in a technology company with many talented people.
- Opportunity to take more responsibility and gain professional experience in financial markets.
