Job description

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Traveling Superintendent to oversee daily field operations for fast-paced grocery and retail construction projects, including remodels, open-store environments, and ground-up work. This role requires a strong field leader who can coordinate multiple trades, maintain project momentum, enforce safety, and ensure the finished product aligns with plans, specifications, and client expectations. Frequent travel is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct all onsite construction activities and ensure crews and subcontractors complete work safely, efficiently, and per project requirements.

  • Develop and maintain the project schedule, including short-term lookahead planning and daily coordination.

  • Manage delivery logistics, material staging, inspections, and sequencing to minimize disruptions—especially in active retail and grocery settings.

  • Enforce safety practices and hold all subcontractors accountable to company and regulatory standards.

  • Review drawings, updates, and documentation; identify conflicts and communicate issues proactively.

  • Prepare daily logs, photo documentation, and progress updates for the Project Manager and stakeholders.

  • Lead jobsite meetings, coordinate with client representatives, and drive the project through punch list and final turnover.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of experience as a Superintendent in commercial construction.

  • At least 4 years of experience working on grocery, retail, or open-store remodel projects.

  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, multi-trade coordination, and field problem-solving.

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and communicate clearly with subcontractors and project teams.

  • Experience with Procore preferred (or ability to pick up software quickly).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods, and working in various outdoor conditions; must be comfortable with typical field-related physical tasks.

  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation; willingness to travel regularly.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary + performance incentives

  • Health insurance, 401(k) with company match

  • Vehicle allowance & gas card

  • Company-issued phone, laptop, and iPad

  • Paid vacation, holidays, and CA sick time
