Job description

Job Title: Sheet Metal TechnicianJob Description

This role focuses on the installation of sheet metal ductwork and related components for a data center project. You will install hangers, high-pressure and low-pressure duct systems, and ensure all work meets safety and quality standards while following site-specific requirements and schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Install hangers for sheet metal systems, including hanging sheet metal strap from pre-installed inserts in the concrete deck and installing trapeze strut hangers.
  • Install high-pressure duct systems using TDF/TDC flange rectangular duct connections.
  • Cut in taps on high-pressure ductwork as needed to accommodate system design and layout.
  • Install low-pressure duct systems by cutting and installing spiral ductwork and associated fittings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to ensure accurate layout and installation of duct systems.
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools, including impact drills, wrenches, pliers, channel locks, vice grips, sockets, and screwdrivers, to complete installations safely and efficiently.
  • Operate scissor lifts safely in accordance with site and certification requirements to access elevated work areas.
  • Follow all site safety protocols, including the proper use of PPE such as type 2 hard hats with chin straps, cut level 5 gloves, high-visibility gear, harnesses, and steel-toed boots.
  • Inspect completed installations for quality, alignment, and compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with other trades and team members to maintain an efficient workflow and minimize rework.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and properly store tools, materials, and equipment at the end of each shift.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5+ years of experience installing duct systems, including high-pressure and low-pressure ductwork.
  • Proficiency in sheet metal installation, including hanger installation and ductwork assembly.
  • Experience with HVAC duct work and HVAC installation in commercial or industrial settings.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Current OSHA 10 certification or higher, or the ability to obtain it before starting.
  • Scissor lift certification, or the ability to obtain it before starting.
  • Ability to safely use and maintain personal hand tools, including impact drill, wrenches, pliers, channel locks, vice grips, 9/16" sockets with impact adapter, and screwdrivers.
  • Ability to work safely at heights while using appropriate fall protection equipment.
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety practices and compliance requirements.
  • Reliable use of Type 2 hard hat with chin strap (required).
  • Consistent use of cut level 5 gloves (required).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Journeyman card in a relevant trade is a plus.
  • OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
  • Experience in construction, commercial construction, or industrial construction environments.
  • Experience with stainless steel welding or general welding is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with data center or similar technical facility projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.

Work Environment

Required PPE includes a type 2 hard hat with chin strap, cut level 5 gloves, high-visibility apparel, harness and retractable lanyard for fall protection, steel-toed boots, and safety glasses. You will frequently work at heights and use scissor lifts to access elevated areas. The environment involves working with sheet metal, duct systems, and power tools in a commercial or industrial setting, where coordination with other trades and teams is essential. Dress and equipment must comply with site safety standards at all times.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
