What is a trade job?

A trade job generally refers to any job whose duties require advanced training and skills gained through means other than a bachelor’s degree. For example, many jobs in the construction industry, such as plumber or electrician, require you to have significant experience and training before you can work. Experience and training can be gained through on-the-job experience or formal education in the form of an apprenticeship or completing a vocational school training program. Although many skilled labor jobs require manual work, not all trade jobs require significant physical labor. Examples of these include being a pilot, a real estate broker, or dental technician.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a trade profession, and why are they important?

To thrive in a trade profession such as electrician, plumber, or carpenter, you need hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and typically a relevant apprenticeship or vocational certification. Mastery of industry-specific tools, safety protocols, and sometimes specialized software (like CAD for construction trades) is often required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and reliability are soft skills that set top tradespeople apart. These competencies ensure quality workmanship, safety, and effective collaboration on job sites, leading to career growth and client satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in trade roles, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in trade roles often encounter challenges such as fluctuating market demands, supply chain disruptions, and the need to stay updated with regulatory changes. Managing these challenges requires adaptability, strong communication with suppliers and clients, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Building a solid network within the industry and staying informed about global market trends can also help trade professionals anticipate and respond to changes effectively.

What are 5 examples of trade jobs?

Trade jobs include electricians, plumbers, carpenters, HVAC technicians, and welders. These roles typically require specialized training or apprenticeships and involve hands-on work in construction, maintenance, or manufacturing environments.

About the Role
Lucid is seeking a highly analytical and operationally focused Trade-In Valuation Analyst to support the continued expansion of our in-house trade-in program. This role is responsible for vehicle valuations, trade acquisition support, pricing analysis, field escalation management, and operational execution throughout the trade-in lifecycle.
The Trade-In Valuation Analyst plays a critical role in maximizing vehicle acquisition profitability, improving customer experience, driving valuation accuracy, and supporting Lucid's broader pre-owned, wholesale, and Certified Pre-Owned business objectives. This role builds upon responsibilities currently performed by the Trade-In Operations team while supporting Lucid's planned expansion of internal trade acquisition capabilities.
Responsibilities
Vehicle Valuation & Acquisition
  • Perform trade-in valuations for Lucid and non-Lucid vehicles using market intelligence, auction data, vehicle history reports, and pricing tools.
  • Review vehicle condition information, ownership history, title status, accident reports, and market demand factors.
  • Provide accurate and timely trade-in offers that balance customer conversion, inventory needs, and profitability targets.
  • Support lease return valuation activities and downstream remarketing decisions.
Trade-In Operations
  • Coordinate vehicle intake, transportation, title follow-up, and disposition activities.
  • Partner with Sales, Delivery, Service, Transaction Operations, Title Operations, and external vendors to resolve trade-in escalations.
  • Monitor trade-in workflows and identify opportunities to reduce cycle times and improve customer experience.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with applicable state and federal regulations.
Analytics & Reporting
  • Analyze auction trends, wholesale values, retail demand, and EV market conditions to improve valuation accuracy.
  • Track key operational metrics including conversion rates, acquisition costs, vehicle turn times, gross profit, and inventory aging.
  • Develop reports and insights that support pricing strategy and business planning.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Support training and coaching for field teams on trade-in processes and valuation best practices.
  • Participate in system enhancement projects and user acceptance testing for trade-in platforms and tools.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for valuation strategy, trade acquisition, and vehicle disposition.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of automotive remarketing, vehicle valuation, wholesale, fleet, auction, finance, or trade-in operations experience.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle appraisal methodologies, market pricing, and wholesale channels.
  • Experience working with vehicle history reports, auction data, and valuation tools.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience analyzing large data sets.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
  • Experience in EV remarketing or automotive e-commerce.
  • Knowledge of vehicle title processing and registration requirements.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Tableau, Power BI, or similar analytics tools.
  • Understanding of auction platforms, transportation logistics, and reconditioning workflows.
  • Certified Automotive Remarketing Specialist (CARS) or equivalent industry certification.

Key Performance Indicators
  • Trade-in conversion rate
  • Valuation accuracy
  • Gross profit per acquired unit
  • Vehicle acquisition cycle time
  • Customer response SLA compliance
  • Inventory turn performance
  • Title and transportation cycle-time metrics
  • Quality and completion of valuation reviews
