What is a trade apprentice?

A Trade Apprentice job is an entry-level position where individuals receive hands-on training in a skilled trade while working under experienced professionals. Apprentices typically earn a wage while learning and may also complete classroom instruction to gain technical knowledge. These roles are common in industries like construction, electrical work, plumbing, and manufacturing. The apprenticeship period varies by trade but often lasts from one to four years. Upon completion, apprentices may receive certification or licensure, allowing them to work as fully qualified tradespeople.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on as a trade apprentice?

As a Trade Apprentice, you'll typically assist experienced tradespeople with a variety of hands-on tasks, such as preparing materials, using basic tools, and following instructions to complete job-related assignments. Your daily duties may include measuring and cutting materials, assembling parts, maintaining equipment, and cleaning up work areas. You'll gain direct exposure to different aspects of the trade, learning both practical skills and industry standards. This on-the-job training, combined with occasional classroom instruction, helps you gradually take on more complex responsibilities and build a strong foundation for future advancement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the trade apprentice position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Trade Apprentice, you need a foundational understanding of your chosen trade (such as electrical, plumbing, or carpentry), a high school diploma or equivalent, and a willingness to learn on the job. Familiarity with hand and power tools, safety equipment, and industry-specific training or certifications (like OSHA 10) is often required. Strong work ethic, attention to detail, teamwork, and good communication set top apprentices apart. These skills and qualities are essential for mastering technical tasks safely, adapting to evolving work environments, and building a successful career in the trades.

Learn Residential Bath Remodeling with a 100% Employee-Owned Company!

Job Overview

Company: American Vision Baths / American Vision Windows

Pay: $20–$22+ per hour, depending on experience

Location: Simi Valley, CA

Schedule: Full-time

Project Scope: Residential bath and shower remodeling

License Requirement: Valid driver’s license preferred, not required

The Opportunity

American Vision Baths is hiring a Bath Apprentice Installer to join our residential remodeling team. This is a hands-on field role for someone who wants to build a long-term career in the trades while learning from experienced Lead Installers.

You will report to our Simi Valley shop, load materials with your crew, travel to local residential job sites in a company vehicle, and help complete high-quality bath, shower, and walk-in tub installations. Most work is local and crews return home nightly. Occasional overnight work may happen with advance notice, hotel accommodations, company vehicle travel, and per diem.

This is a strong opportunity for someone with construction, roofing, windows, siding, general labor, plumbing, electrical, maintenance, or other hands-on trade experience who is ready to learn a repeatable bath installation system.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Assist Lead Installers with residential bath, shower, and walk-in tub remodels.
  • Help protect customer homes using tarps, floor protection, and clean jobsite practices.
  • Support demo, material handling, prep work, installation, cleanup, and final detail work.
  • Use basic hand and power tools safely.
  • Take measurements, follow instructions, and complete assigned tasks accurately.
  • Help carry materials and remove debris from customer homes.
  • Learn company installation standards, safety procedures, and product-specific processes.
  • Maintain a professional attitude when working in occupied homes.
  • Show up on time, ready to work, and willing to learn.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 1 year of hands-on trade, construction, labor, maintenance, or related field experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of tools, measuring, and safe jobsite practices.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. individually and assist with heavier team lifts.
  • Comfortable with physical work, including bending, carrying, climbing, and working in tight spaces.
  • Comfortable working in residential customer homes.
  • Reliable transportation to the Simi Valley shop.
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to take direction.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in residential remodeling, bath installation, windows, siding, roofing, plumbing, electrical, maintenance, or general construction.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, PPE, ladders, and jobsite safety.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay: $20–$22+ per hour, depending on experience.
  • Overtime potential.
  • Bi-weekly pay.
  • Employee Stock Ownership Program, 100% employee-owned company.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance options.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and parental leave.
  • Uniforms and field safety equipment.
  • Paid training and career growth opportunities.
  • Referral and performance bonus opportunities.
  • Occasional travel perks when applicable, including per diem, hotel, and company vehicle travel.
