Job description

American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) seeks applications for the 2027-2028 academic year for two full-time, tenured or tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. Depending on qualifications, the appointee to one or both positions may be recommended for tenure at the time of hiring.

Position Areas
  • Constitutional law, including the First Amendment and free expression.
  • Tort law (many strong applicants for the torts position may also have an interest in an additional field).
Position Requirements
  • Candidate must hold a J.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree by the date of application.
  • Applicants should demonstrate innovative and productive scholarship, exemplary teaching, and dynamic engagement within the AUWCL community.
  • Background check required for hiring.
Hiring & Compensation
  • Submit a curriculum vitae and cover letter via Workday.
  • No formal deadline; interviews begin as early as August2026. Apply as soon as possible.
  • Salary ranges: Assistant professor $150,000–$175,000; Associate professor $168,000–$180,000; Professor $177,000–$210,000 (disclosed pursuant to D.C. law).
