Job description

Minnesota Commercial Railway (MNNR)

Job Location: St. Paul, MN

Salary Range: $26 per hour


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAFETY: Comply with company and federal safety rules and regulations, including wearing required safety equipment.

·         Maintains and repairs tracks, turnouts, at-grade crossings, rail lubrication machines and other mechanical systems on track structure.

·         Conducts and records track, turnout and joint inspections. 

·         Replaces areas of concrete or timber ties, turnouts, and track fastenings.

·         Operates small tools and equipment (rail saw, rail drill and spiking equipment)

·         Assists with track surfacing, alignment and gauging operations.

·         Assist in emergency situations.

·         Attends safety and training meetings.

·         Operates hi-rail vehicles, and other vehicles used with track maintenance, inspection and recording, wheel/skid steer loaders, rail grinders, track tamper and ballast regulators.  

·         Assists with inventory of spare parts to ensure parts are available to carry out track maintenance.

·         Performs snow removal; operates snow removal equipment (self-propelled and handheld removal equipment).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

·         18 years of age or older.

·         Obtained a high school diploma or GED.

·         Possess a valid state-issued driver license. (CDL Preferred)

·         Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English.

·         Available to work full-time (40 hrs/week), subject to overtime and on call. Possible, but not frequent nights and weekends.

·         Able to lift and carry up to 75lbs without assistance.

·         Able to visually distinguish colors (red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar (clear light)).

·         Able to hear, and with training, distinguish auditory signals.

·         Able to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling.

·         Able to perform work on uneven surfaces; frequently climb ladders; get on/off equipment.

·         Able to work in conditions with loud noise and fumes; work on/around heavy/moving machinery; bend, lift, walk stand, sit for extended periods of time; and use hand tools.

·         Follow safety policies and procedures; wear required personal protective equipment.

Work Conditions: Extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.

Training: Company-paid on-the-job training, including preparation, equipment and expenses to obtain CDL.
