Plan, organize, and conduct effective track and field practices that develop skills in running, jumping, throwing, conditioning, and event-specific techniques.
Teach the fundamentals of track and field events, including sprints, middle-distance and distance running, relays, hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, and other events as appropriate for middle school competition.
Develop season training plans and prepare student-athletes for interscholastic competition.
Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and all team-related activities.
Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes by implementing proper conditioning, event techniques, warm-up and cool-down procedures, and safety protocols.
Verify that all student-athletes meet district and school eligibility requirements, including academic standards and required athletic documentation.
Encourage academic excellence by monitoring student-athlete progress and emphasizing responsibility in the classroom.
Promote confidence, teamwork, leadership, discipline, perseverance, respect, integrity, and positive sportsmanship.
Foster an inclusive and supportive team environment that encourages individual improvement, resilience, confidence, and personal growth.
Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, the Athletic Director, school administration, and faculty.
Maintain accurate team rosters, attendance records, meet entries, event results, equipment inventories, and required athletic documentation.
Inspect, distribute, collect, and properly store uniforms and track and field equipment.
Prepare practice areas and competition venues before activities and ensure equipment and facilities are secured afterward.
Coordinate event assignments and assist student-athletes in preparing for competition.
Ensure compliance with all district policies, school procedures, conference regulations, and applicable athletic association rules.
Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development sessions, and district athletic trainings.
Supervise student-athletes until they are released to a parent, guardian, or other authorized individual following practices and meets.
Report injuries, accidents, disciplinary concerns, or other incidents promptly to the Athletic Director and school administration.
Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, ethical behavior, and good sportsmanship.
Encourage parent and community support of the girls track and field program.
Perform other coaching-related duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of track and field rules, coaching techniques, event-specific instruction, and athlete development.
Ability to teach track and field fundamentals appropriate for middle school student-athletes.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and motivational skills.
Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, staff, officials, and the community.
Knowledge of first aid, injury prevention, hydration, heat-related illness prevention, and emergency response procedures.
Ability to supervise students in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
