Building Inspector

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Building Inspector performs on-site building inspections to verify compliance with applicable building codes, approved plans, and project specifications. This position is work-from-home based, with inspections conducted in the field throughout the assigned territory. While supported by a home office for reporting and coordination, the role requires regular site visits and periodic travel to Jacksonville for training, meetings, and company coordination. The Building Inspector works independently while maintaining consistent communication with internal teams, contractors, and clients.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE – This Role:

  • Perform on-site building inspections to verify compliance with applicable building codes, approved plans, and project specifications
  • Conduct inspections in the field throughout the assigned territory while working from a home office for reporting and coordination
  • Document inspection results accurately and submit reports in a timely manner
  • Communicate inspection findings clearly with contractors, project managers, clients, and internal teams
  • Identify non-compliant work and provide clear, professional guidance on corrective actions
  • Maintain knowledge of current building codes, regulations, and inspection standards
  • Coordinate inspection schedules and manage daily workloads independently
  • Utilize company systems and technology to track inspections, reports, and documentation
  • Travel to Jacksonville periodically for training, meetings, and company coordination
  • Represent the company professionally on job sites and in all communications
  • Travel to and from job sites using a company-provided vehicle in accordance with company policies

Requirements:
  • Must be a Licensed building inspector (Board of Building Code Administrators, Chapter 468, F.S.), structural as a minimum but other categories (1&2 family, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire, etc.) are valued.
  • Demonstrated experience with building inspections in Florida (private provider or comparable)
  • Working knowledge of CMT (density, concrete, soils) and how to interpret results
  • Current or attainable Florida/ICC inspector licenses (list current certifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Residing in Florida, with ability to make periodic site visits in/around Jacksonville
  • Experience coordinating with geotechnical and materials testing teams
  • Existing relationships with Florida GCs, builders, or owners
  • This role requires lifting of up to 50 lbs., daily. Daily bending, walking, riding in lifts, and driving for long periods throughout the day.
