Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a NICU/PICU position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of recent NICU/PICU experience and RRT certification.

Details
  • Level I Trauma, teaching, children's hospital with 554 staffed beds
  • NICU unit with average daily census of 6-10 ventilated patients
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:00-6:30)
  • Weekend work required as needed by the unit, with no more than 3 consecutive weekends
  • Float to RRT Adults unit as needed to meet facility needs
  • Uses Cerner charting system
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week; facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 holiday bundles (Thanksgiving/day after, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day)
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of recent NICU/PICU experience required
  • Both NICU and PICU experience required
  • Current RRT, BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
  • PALS certification preferred
  • New Mexico state license required (license required if applicable)
  • Pending license accepted
  • Trauma Level I experience required
  • Self-rated minimum of 4 on High Frequency Jet Ventilator (HFJV) and High Frequency Oscillator (HFOV) required
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, nasal/oral airway placement and suctioning, tracheostomy suctioning, and sputum specimen collection
  • Proficient in pulmonary toileting and ABG interpretation
  • First-time travelers accepted
Additional Information
  • Provide respiratory care to critically ill neonatal and pediatric patients requiring mechanical ventilation
  • Perform ventilator management including CPAP, BiPAP, high frequency jet ventilation, and oscillating ventilation
  • Assist in high-risk deliveries and manage airway devices including nasal and oral airways
  • Administer nebulized medications and manage oxygen therapy including high flow nasal cannula
  • Perform pulmonary hygiene, tracheostomy care, and bronchoscopy assistance
  • Troubleshoot ventilator alarms and wean patients from mechanical ventilation
  • Scrub color is royal blue
  • No parking fee at this facility
  • COVID vaccine optional, but facility requires reporting of vaccine status or declination
  • No local candidates within 100 miles of the facility
  • Requests for RTO greater than 7 days require approval
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated
