The Opportunity:
Are you an Electrical Engineer who loves to create interesting contraptions and make cool stuff? Here's an opportunity to work with some of the finest designers and engineers in the toy industry, supporting all Mattel brands including Barbie, Monster High, Hot Wheels and our Entertainment properties like Jurassic World, Minecraft, Dark Knight and WWE.
What Your Impact Will Be:
Be part of the D&D teams that create some of the world's coolest electronic toys and games! Managing multiple new electronic items every year makes this position both challenging and rewarding. You'll communicate effectively with engineers, designers and other cross-functional teams in El Segundo, East Aurora and China. You'll contribute technological elements to concepts in a collaborative setting as part of the Mattel Brands. You'll routinely collaborate in brainstorming new product concepts. You'll bring your inquisitive mind, inventive instinct, enthusiasm for electronic toys and gadgets, and your expertise as an electronic design engineer to fascinating projects on a daily basis, for the world's largest toy company.
Qualifications
What We're Looking For:
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • At least 3 - 8 years hands-on experience in design, prototyping and troubleshooting analog and digital electronic circuits.
  • The vision and perseverance to take ideas from concept through development and into production.
  • Working knowledge of components and ability to define systems and systems architecture - hardware, firmware and software. Design, prototyping and troubleshooting analog and digital electronic circuits
  • Must be self-starting, self-motivating, self-directing and self-managing and a strong team player
  • Project management skills; the ability to lead, multi-task and handle several projects simultaneously a must
  • Familiarity with any of ARM, 6502, Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar a must. Experience with smaller embedded systems for toys/handheld devices.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with audio engineering, RF engineering, communications and signal processing.
  • Proficiency with software development for embedded systems.
  • Experience in product development within consumer electronics industry is required.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Design, Project Management, Packaging, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members
  • Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred
  • Ability to effectively pitch toy concepts to peers and upper management
  • Experience in product development within the toy industry
  • Experience working with vendors and PCBA providers
  • Perform Vendor Evaluation
  • Software test and Development Debug

  • Building prototypes based on input from non-technical partners
  • Mechatronic / animatronic system design
