Job description

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Master of Towing Vessels to operate and lead tug operations in San Francisco Bay and surrounding waters. The ideal candidate is a confident mariner with strong local knowledge, excellent crew leadership skills, and a commitment to regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the operator-in-charge of towing vessels, conducting marine construction support, ship stores deliveries, and offshore towing 
  • Lead and manage onboard crew operations, including training, safety drills, and work assignments
  • Conduct routine inspections of vessel systems and coordinate maintenance needs with shoreside personnel
  • Ensure compliance with all USCG, company, and environmental regulations
  • Complete required logs, reports, and documentation accurately and timely
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, port captains, and clients

Qualifications:

  • Valid USCG Master of Towing Vessels license (Near Coastal or Oceans preferred)
  • Proven proficiency in barge handling, ship assist, and wire towing
  • Strong working knowledge of San Francisco Bay and/or West Coast towing operations
  • TWIC card and current USCG Medical Certificate
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and emergency call-outs
